Sorry for the delayed reply but I went around town earlier to see if i'd be up for it and my wrist is being a bitch, and for some reason there's quite a bit of pain coming from my little finger, sounds silly but it's surprisingly bad. Apologies once again, we definitely will do it at some point though!

No-one at HPC but I didn't expect it anyway and it was my duty to check if someone might have turned up who hadn't seen that it was probably not going to happen.
But the trip was well worth it, as on the way back I bumped into my mate Adrian, who as it so happens is planning to go to Brighton on Sunday. This will be a daytime ride and we haven't thought about details yet, but hopefully a good second best! PM me if you'd like to come along. There is of course the usual risk of ice, especially in the early morning, but the daytime looks reasonably warm.

Then that sounds as if you should have it examined asap! Good luck with that and I hope it turns out to be nothing serious! It's not silly at all, and if anyone says HTFU just tell them you ride around at night in shorts and T-shirt ...

hey sorry i had to pull out completely forgot that i'd signed up. I came off the bike on monday night, lost all memory, spent 6hours in a&E, was pretty disorientated for the next few days and my face was pretty cut up. so i've got a pretty good excuse i think.

Blimey, that sounds horrible. Glad you are well enough to post. What happened? How's the bike? How long to recover? Hope you recover fully quickly.

cheers - been posting more as i'm bored at home. i have no idea what happened only thing i remember is phoning my flatmate saying that i've come off my bike and i'm at mileend - i did this over and over again as i couldn't remember doing it the time before. was about 6hours until i regained memory. face was pretty cut up but fine now the bike is also fine although i torn another pair of trousers....maybe time to invest in a sewing machine rather than building up a new bike.

That is really scary - to come round and find yourself in Mile End that is.
Glad you and the bike are ok.

You don't need one, mate! Rest, rest, rest. Hope you're better soon!
This ride has been jinxed--I came off, too, on Thursday, although not as badly that I couldn't have ridden.
Now we really have to do it in early January! It's like that scene in 'The World According to Garp':

Jesus Christ, you guys are an accident prone bunch. Ride safe, heal up, and please exorcise whatever devil keeps throwing you from the bike.
Thanks a million for the turn sheet and the tips. I am just pulling the bike apart and putting it in the box tonight (the head trauma story was a good reminder to pack the helmet). Can't wait to get over there and get some miles in... even though right now the sat/sun forecast is for rain, wind, and low 40s. I will be on this beast:

Hello again. Just wanted to thank everyone on here for the good intel for the ride between London and Brighton. Saturday the weather was shit so I took the train down to Brighton, and then Sunday I decided to spend my day fucking around in the downs, so I got as far as Crawley before grabbing the train--on the train down I decided that riding through London suburbs would be a lot like riding through Queens and the Downs were much more exciting anyway.
Extra thanks to Oliver for the tip on the OS maps. I pretty much rode where ever I wanted to until I got lost, then I'd find out where I was on the OS map and wander off in a new direction. Couldn't have done it that way otherwise.
It's a beautiful country you guys have here. Thanks for helping me see some of it.
PS: When the next Arrospok shortage hits, I know where you can find some...

Great to hear you enjoyed yourself, John!

I love doing it this way, too. And when you forget to take the map, as has happened to me on more than one occasion, you just ask someone. It's one reason why I won't get a GPS ...

Over to the Arrospok thread with you then, sir!
Be aware that people over there are experts and they may be able to count spok, though ...
Let us know when you're over next, or is that years away?

BTW, TTID--long live the new thread:

Hop over there for a night ride to Brighton on the 7th February.
Aw, I'm really sorry to hear that, Michael. So unfortunate! I hope you feel up to it, if you were and needed additional padded gloves I could bring some along. We'll have one in the New Year, that's for sure. With longer notice this time and not directly after a ride that might have sated many people's appetite for night riding for a while ...
**To all: I will be at Hyde Park Corner at 10 in any case and if I meet someone there then the ride is on! I'll wait for 15 minutes. Or just PM me or post on-thread.

It's not looking too bad weather-wise, as the temperature seems to stay consistently above zero, even in the countryside. While it's quite wet now, there is very little to no rain forecast overnight.
