Emyr - I've had a look at those bars you gave me last night and I'm afraid there just not going to work for getting the position I'm after. I'm going to hold out for finding some flats to get me a little lower at the front end. I'll bring them back on Sunday, sorry for being an awkward customer.

F&B - what bar position are you looking for? I've got fucking loads of bars and I want to get rid of 'em. What'dya need?
-
• #3457
I'm sorted now. Blindingly obvious solution has just presented itself to me.
-
• #3458
Turn them round? New hands? Scaffolding pole?
-
• #3459
Flipped the stem?
-
• #3460
fixed them to the bike?

Swapping with the 580mm flat bars on my plug. Since riding an MTB for a while the front end feels way to low so risers should help with that*. The risers are to wide but as I only need brakes and no shifters I've got more room to trim them down or the option of just leaving them wide and pissing off the housemates when they try to get through the hallway. Zero cost and kills two birds with one stone.
*It's strange, I used to run 100mm negative rise stem (effectively flat) with bullhorns but flats with a 90mm +7deg stem feels way lower for some reason.

Anyone know where I can get some cordura or something similar to modify my messenger bag with?
I'm also looking for some black leather for a different project, I'm not sure if Abakans will do it... -
• #3464
Abakhans do both... Just their stock changes constantly.... Need to have a look
-
• #3465
Ah sweet, I'll have a look later. Cheers Russo

from the polo thread:
i'd like to buy/rent any cheap old hybrid/mtb. it's to teach a number of friends how to ride. only one gear setting needed to work. as a matter of fact, a freewheel ss would be perfect.
4 individuals in my close circles are adults who can't ride. it's about time i fixed that.

I can only imagine your lesson plans...
Lesson 1. Bike ejection and floor interface techniques.
Lesson 2. Round wheels - Why they are wrong!
Lesson 3. Applied bag overloading and load carryingNoble cause. As you might have seen on the polo thread there are some deals to be had via Gumtree and also Loot.

Lesson 4. Bike-on-top love.
-
• #3473
Seriously though, lesson 1 is actually important.
Knowing how to fall properly means avoiding injury in the case of the inevitable tumble.

I''ll PM you now

Hands off the bars, feet on the saddle, backflip dismount whilst letting the car pass underneath you. Finish.

That's how I do it anyway.
