  • You got mail

  • does anyone have a nice 90mm ish ahead stems for sale? thomson or something

  • hi chris, incase you missed my pm, interedted in the levers if you would be able to post.

  • is the sugino bottom bracket still for sale?

  • ^what i was wondering

  • Actually, (assuming it's a British built viking, before they moved production to Ireland) it IS quite nice (I've had two). Don't let the fact that they don't say reynolds on fool you ... they are lovely vintage lightweight frames.

  • its handbuilt and "lightweight" frame, its also terribly rattlecanned. pleanty of old frames on ebay, it certainly isnt special at all.

yeah there are plenty of frames but i've seen none for this cheap in mcr (admittedly i haven't looked that hard) that are in half decent condition and suitable for a SS build. i'd buy it if it was a bit smaller...

    bloody keyboard hero ;)

  • Model: 09 Sirus Elite (A1 Alu frame with Zert Carbon forks)
    Size: 54cm
Condition: Well used. No dents on frame but lots of scuffs etc from locking up. Bike has not been crashed but has seen a few trails as well as tarmac.

Rear wheel upgraded to A319 rim by Wills. Seatpost and saddle changed. Otherwise stock for that years model.

    Needs:
    Chain
    Hub re-build
    Headset re-build
New rear V brake (return springs shot)

The chain rings and cassette are both worn and the free hub has a pawl not working. BB might also need replacing although it does turn freely. Yes, I did get lazy with maintenance.

Bike is sold as is, very much something for somebody to fix up / strip for bits. It's been sat in a dry cellar for over 9 months doing nothing.

Open to offers, I'm really not expecting that much due to condition. I can't really split or ship as I broke my Scaphoid at the start of the month riding my fixed and I'm about two months away from loosing the splint :-( so it's buyer collects. I'm close to the centre of Levenshulme.

PM or drop me a line on:

Oooh seven five 3 nine - two eight six - ohhh double seven.

After 6pm best as I can't do phone at work.

  • im at work, so cant open your photos. would this be stupid to use for polo?

  • it would be ok for polo, only slight downside is it has vertical drop outs, meaning you need to have some sort of chain tensioner in order to run it single speed......

Not sure whether it takes a screw-on freewheel, i'm not very up on gears...! if it does it's easy to convert to single speed..... somebody else on here can probably tell you that....

  • Just re-read the ad, it's a free hub , not a freewheel hub, have a look at Sheldons article on converting bikes to single speed, read the section about casette hubs and about chain tensioners......

i dont see anything wrong with using it from the get-go as it has flat handlebars

i heard that dangeruss snapped his carbon forks playing polo. i dont know how long he had been using them or how it happened

( singlespeed bike for polo isnt a necessity, just part of being less breakable)

  • no - I snapped dangeruss' carbon forks in a collision when i was even more accident prone on the polo court than I am now #stillproud

The rear hub is shimano cassette style, you could use a spacer kit if you wanted and replacing the free hub body if needed is simple enough. Drop outs are vertical so you would need a tensioner or to use the rear mech. Personally I'd loose the larger of the two front rings and just run a 1x9. The 28 tooth front ring is hardly worn and you'd stand a chance of being able to ride to the pitch. You could play magic ratios and half-links but I think the mech would be OK, it tucks in quite a bit in the bottom 3 gears on the block. Maybe get creative with a cage like they had in the 80's?

The bars are 5deg flat sweep. In the pics on Flikr the stem is flipped from how it's supplied. Flip it back over and you lift the bars about 5cm if you wanted the front higher. 31.8 clamp for easy riser bar fitting.

If you wanted to pop over for a look and a brew at some point just let me know, you're shit out of luck if you require artificial cow juice though!

  • Adams forks snapped from bens mallet getting forced through the gap between the fork leg and the wheel, was a pretty rare occurrence, i would use carbon forks for polo without being too bothered

  • I wouldn't

  • I wouldn't use carbon forks for polo either - theres just no way that they are as tough as steel and for something like polo, with the shit that the bike will get put through (bikes crashing into each other loads etc) why risk a failure? Be real go steel

  • steel forks are cheap too. i think rincewind will swap you those carbon ones for steel forks if you buy the bike
