Gotta love the Torygraph and the Mail. Pretty much every article is akin to looking in an Estate Agent's window.

'Extensive grounds and a tennis court'

The.... Cold, Merciless Killer Eyes Wholesale Emporium....... IDK...

  • Just read it a second time... - Did they REALLY just go and use the term Lawless "UNDERCLASS"
    Un-fucking-believable.

  • He talks black. Must be black.

It reminds me of a certain cabbie. We were in his black cab driving through Bakers Arms. There was a group of Asian boys (actually "looking" like Bangladeshi) kicking someone who was on the floor. Boys had shaved heads, hoods and tracksuits, but it was obvious they're not black. Cabbie called the police saying that a bunch of West Indian youths is mugging someone. Here you go...

I've got a couple of Romanian blokes on my sunday football team in surrey. Once we had a ref who referred to them as "the coloured fellas".

  • To be honest, I'm not quite sure what the procedures are like in the UK.
Does police actually have any rights? I mean I always see them either walking around with a pen and taking all the abuse or 15 of them piled up on top of someone.

In most countries you can't swear at police, because you'll be arrested. Just like that. You can't touch them either, because they will use their batons. Just like that.

Over here they seem to be pushed around a lot. Shit job.

The Met has a credibility problem entirely of its own making - it dates back to 60 / 70s / 80s and the wide-spread misuse of police powers, such as the sus law. They are also still in a huff because they had to fess up to institutional racism after the Lawrence thing.

I would also say that SO19 has a lot to answer for, and have been guilty of particularly childish behaviour when criticised, virtually going on strike when one of their number was sanctioned after shooting dead an unarmed man. SO19's reputation is so poor that the Met have been forced to rename it CO19. I should think that the Trident boys are privately absolutely incandescent with rage that not only have they lost the opportunity to question & prosecute a big noise within the Tottenham gang scene (as it seems that Duggan was), but also that they are likely to have lost the cooperation that they need from snitches (or whatever you want to call them) to be able to get inside the gangs because of the shooting. No-one is going to want to have even the slightest sniff of being a grass right now in Tottenham.

I'm afraid I also don't buy the widely spread nonsense about the police lacking powers. Having been on the receiving end of enforcement of the Public Order Act on various different occasions, and in view of the extra powers they received under CJA, I would say that they have more than enough legal power to arrest & hold people.

The French police forces (of which there are many, Gendarmerie, Surete Nationale, CRS etc) are armed, have water cannon, tear-gas, baton rounds took a whole month to put down the 2005 civil unrest, so it doesn't follow that giving the police more hardware will enable them to control the situation better.

There was a former Chief Constable on the news yesterday being asked about baton rounds & water cannon, and his take was that water cannon are only good for putting out fires, and dealing with pitched battles, as they move relatively slowly, and that baton rounds are only used in NI for keeping potential molotov cocktail throwers out of range of the police, ie only used in confrontational situations. In other words, they are defensive weapons, not offensive weapons.

  • "She went on to take A–levels in English literature, classical civilisation, geography and French."

This is beyond my understanding as a lowly State school thug. Convoluted description for home economics or IT studies. Maybe woodwork; sanding and chopping things.

  • Oh, and by the way, I am definitely NOT anti-police in principle.

Perhaps not be you are speaking sense on the reactionary comments about the news thread.

Ancient Greece and Rome. Loads of looting, struggle with those barbarians, pillaging, slavery, sodomy.

It means she's not that bright, so they make up some soft subjects so she can get 4 A Levels.

  • ?

Surely classical civilisation, is in the same league as history.

  • Maybe it is a combination of classical languages and the history that accompanies them?

  • Perhaps not be you are speaking sense on the reactionary comments about the news thread.

Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

  • When I did it at prep school, it was the study of Roman and Ancient Greek history as told by their mythology.

  • ^ Yarp

  • Classical civilisation is like Latin but learning the context of it rather than concentrating on the language.
