  • They also hunch their backs. If you don't sit properly it all goes downhill.

  • Guardian is all over this, great piece by a man of the cloth here:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/aug/10/salford-riots-greed-disenfranchised?intcmp=239

There's an interesting piece in Telegraph about the race aspect of riots (with less interesting comments, as it's a right wing paper at the end of the day).

    I blame Fried Chicken.
FC is killing the minds of the 'Youths'... Trust me.

It's broad event, there is plenty of scope to hang whatever hat you want on it, everyone has something to say and they all know they're right, the religious, the left, the right, the EDL, the liberal, the conservative, anti-consumerist, pro-consumerist . . . blah blah blah, it's a good canvas for people to parade their political leanings.

Colonel Sanders is already on the fucking list, has my eye on him since the chicken riots.

  • And I'm saying that as someone that used to read the Independent until I realised that the only reason I read it was for Robert Fisk, who only writes very occasionally, & Patrick Cockburn, who likewise writes very little.

What matter is - whose got those plasmas?!

  • I'd love to read the Independent, but I only understand like every third word from it.

Yeah, I have been working this week with someone who is reading the Torygraph w/site. The articles are great, the comments are stomach-churning.

The copy-editing is done by the same kids that were smashing up Mare Street on Monday night.

  • those

  • It's what I wrote few pages ago, but what do I know. sigh

What the kid said is crap. The cops will come down there with a renewed mandate, and beat the shit out of them. The big-time gangsters will avoid the bother, like they always do, but idiots like him will get pasted.

The phoney bravado of the 'street-wise'. Good for beating on the defenceless & unprepared, but not much cop when it comes to taking on determined & skilful use of force. Sure, they might learn, like they have in Ulster, but right now, they're just scrotes.

Or did you mean the stuff about copy-catting? Copy-cat violence has been going on since the year dot. Interwebs & 'traditional' media merely speed up the process.

  • What the kid said is crap.

    Of course.

I haven't said he is right, I merely stated the fact that this is the widespread opinion "in the hood", or whatever you want to call it.
My kid is still getting BBM messages from all over the place trying to wind people up and do some more damage.

  • Oh yeah, no, the attitude is familiar. Mostly, I find it funny, but then I don't have kids, I generally only have to deal with the Hackney kids when I play polo.

how do i get in on bbm iwthout owning one?

    ^Child denier!

  • Oh wait..

  • Sorry I thought your avatar was someone else's. Sorry Biffalo

  • how do i get in on bbm iwthout owning one?

Whatsapp? But it's not like twitter or facebook - you'd have to add people, so you'd need a connec (an ugly word).

  • Sorry I thought your avatar was someone else's. Sorry Biffalo

    Nerged.

  • Wow. If any of you think some of the so-called 'bleeding-heart liberal' posts on this thread are wrong-headed, you really have no idea. This person is seriously off their trolley, and a tweeter reckons that they have cropped the black guys from the photo in their clean-up-is-racist post.

    This line jumps out:
    *
By the symbolic cleaning, cleansing and casting out of the rioters from the community, the sweepers appear to enact the closest thing to popular fascism that we have seen on the streets of certain ‘leafy’ bits of London for years.*

Right. If the guy was referring to the resemblance between the symbol of the clean-up, a broom, and the symbol of Italian fascism, the fasces, I can kind of see it. But I think the poster means that there is a resemblance between the clean-up & popular fascism, ie militaristic corporatism with a dash of heroic leadership (which is, basically, what Mussolini espoused). Struggling very hard to see that one.

I hate seeing the word 'fascism' or 'nazi' bandied about so cheaply.

  • Oh, I see that Pennyred has found her way onto Al-Jazeera.

  • ^ not come across her before but an interesting piece.

  • Yeah what a cunt, how DARE HE travel freely within his own country, must have done it only to be up to no good, scum.

800 pages later and only it seems only those I know in real life, Manc_Ronnie, and Horatio, are the voices of reason or sence

Hence the words "It appears he travelled...". Would you travel to Croydon while its under the most destructive attack seen so far? Without taking the Moral high ground, I, like most people, would be at home watching it on tv thinking 'cunts!'. Either way, he took part in looting and therefore is no better than anyone else who did it irrespective of their social standing or woes. I have more sympathy with the homeless man, from Croydon, who stole a bottle of wine, from a Croydon off licence, as, on the face of it, this could be seen as opportunistic.

Right let's all join internet hands and pray for another safe day.

  • Candle light vigil in Birmingham.
    All parties appealing for peace.

    But wait...
Is that a naked flame in a petrol station!!!!!

  • Fail

  • Yeah, a racist designer with a fucking bed no less.

    Typical.

Get off the Internet and get a life. Stop accusing people of being racist.
