  • Dose shitty sexism abuse etc happen in the Media because everyone is a Freelance?

At some level enough are scared enough that if they are seen as Whistleblowers they'll get Blacklisted and never work again in the industry that the've spent so much time and effort building a Career in. Hence the culure of silence that the predators take advantage of?

  • Nail on head. Freelancing = grovelling for ever.

  • Peel and Bowie. Still not cancelled either

  • As the telegraph and daily nazi did many pieces that he is a star for being in hope his non verbal autistic child will be normal and that his old sperm cuased his sons autism.

  • You haven't lived till you've gone to the pub on Friday for the afternoon stripper.

This was in the 90s and have never felt so out of my depth and felt like I was in another world I could not understand. At the time put it down as being a prude.

  • How am I to understand if experts like you don't explain?

    Read about it I guess.

And thanks for instructing me not to mention it.

No need to thank me as that's not what I said.

  • Nail on head. Freelancing = grovelling for ever.

This is bollocks, I stopped grovelling when I became freelance. I work in the film and TV industry BTW.

  • Its been a few days since he has been thrown under several buses so where does it end and the bbc move on to someone else ?

Oh eff him i may add….

  • Dose shitty sexism abuse etc happen in the Media because everyone is a Freelance?

No, not everyone is freelance, freelancers generally have more freedom to say what they think but you're not part of the machine so you're not going to take this to HR.

The problems in TV are a result of the 'talent' being treated like superstars, some people understand it's all bollocks and complete luck they're in the position and others start to believe their devine right to rule.

There are plenty of industries with the same power dynamics and problems but they're not beamed into your home everyday

  • because everyone is a Freelance?

Can't be fucked to find the right source right now, but I've read investigations into this – i.e. whether there is more harassment in fields with less certain employment. They looked for correlations elsewhere and seem to have their suspicions confirmed. One example was how women in academia put up with a lot of shit because they were worried they wouldn't get funding for their next round of research etc.

  • Not everyone is a freelancer and most in decision making positions are not.

I think it's a combination of low margins so poor decisions can be business ending and celebrity worship skewing decisions.

  • What’s the common thread?

That many of them didn’t work exclusively for the BBC, finding employment across the media despite being shits?

  • Won't be long before someone reports him to social services for having his child's face all over his IG.

  • I have an on-going argument with a work colleague who defends Peel with his life.

  • Great dj, broadcaster, massive sexual predator

  • You haven't lived till you've gone to the pub on Friday for the afternoon stripper.

I remember as an apprentice going to a customer in Slough to remedy an order we had fucked up and they offered to take us out for lunch, the choice (on a Monday lunchtime) was the local carvery or the pub with strippers. Thankfully the service engineer chose the carvery.

  • But still defended because 'he was never charged '

  • My mother told me a story when she worked in PR of him demanding sex or he wouldn’t cover an event she was promoting. He pretty much chased her around his office, she didn’t comply. She tried to make light of it but clearly it had been very uncomfortable.

  • Now that sounds odd, as it was Monday. Feels more like a pub with a strippers in the back room.

My experience was on a Friday, after we got our pay packets before lunch. Then lunchtime off for lunch and give money to the stripper walking round the pub. Not even on a stage.

  • Okay, that's gotta be enough Greggg fucken Wallace by now

  • I used to go and watch Boro midweek matches when I worked up there.

We’d leave the office at 4:30pm and go to the Tuxedo Royale floating nightclub/bar for a few jars beforehand. There was always a stripper on, and what made it worse was all the fellas that were there and had their young kids with them because they were taking them to the match.

  • Know this sounds weird but I am intrigued. Was the stripper on a stage/raised area or just wandering round.

My experience was odd, as it felt like something 20 years out of date.
