He had secured the made-to-measure titanium Condor Gran Fondo cycle — worth about £3,000 — to a bike rack in Gray's Inn Road with a motorcycle lock, but when he came out after the evening bulletin there was no sign of it. Parking it directly under a CCTV camera was apparently no deterrent.
Astonishing that they don't seem to have better bike parking at ITN--surely Jon must have lobbied for that before?

You will be seeing his replacement bike on the news now, propped against the back wall of the studio where Jon can keep an eye on it...

Personally think he was a bit of a twat leaving a £3k bike locked up outside anywhere in London.
I feel his pain though -

This is the sort of outcome that we were aiming at with our campaign against bike theft. Very good work. I do hope it gets extended and wipes out enough of this crime to make a tangible difference.
Nah until people stop buying them.

I should probably say that I approve of the scheme, just found it funny that they'd issued a caution to the two chaps caught with a van full of stolen bikes.
Sad more like, as thats all you get.

The difficulty with stolen bikes has always been how to prove that they're stolen. I can only assume that in these cases, they couldn't press further charges.
couldn't press charges even though they admitted to selling stolen bikes?
Two Ukrainian nationals were cautioned. They admitted going back to their home country regularly to sell stolen bikes.

They do actually, but it's in the garage at the back, they tend to lock outside in the front of the ITN building because it's much easier to just lock it and go in than fuddling about in the garage.

Two sets of neighbours had a lucky escape after one house was petrol bombed and a shot fired through next door's front window.
Six people including three young children were sleeping when a flaming milk bottle was thrown through their living room window in Stepney.
The attack early yesterday followed an argument between a cyclist outside the firebombed house and a driver who reportedly threatened to shoot him, the Metropolitan Police said.
According to the force, the cyclist was getting on his bike when a black VW Golf collided with him and knocked him down just before midnight on Wednesday, grazing his leg.
The pair clashed, with the driver suffering a cut head and the police being called.
But tempers calmed down and the driver - described as black and in his late twenties or early thirties - left the scene.
Two and a half hours later a gunshot was heard, shortly before the petrol bomb was thrown through the house in Antill Terrace. -
