  • Editing comment because of the potential trial implications.

  • Woah, not what I was imagining from reporting. Is kicking a thing in hockey fights? I thought it was all haymaker and wild swinging. Kicking with blades on your feet feels beyond moody even ignoring this tragedy.

  • That's horrendous, when I first read the initial report it was just explained as a collision, it made it sound like the blade of a hockey stick cut his throat during a check. The whole way it was described made you think it was incredible that these accidents didn't happen more often.

  • The initial reports were so totally at odd with what I saw it was bizarre.

The video was from a phone from the back of one of the stands so you didn't see any of the detail (thank god) as above I can buy the idea that it was a kick aimed at the chest which has gone horribly wrong. I have no idea if that considered reasonable in hockey, I hope not.

  • Sometimes people see what they want to see. 🤷

  • Oh OK this is normal

  • just read this about Ice hockey dont think a kick t the chest is legal !
"Player s are allowed to physically engage with an opponent using their strength and balance as long as their primary focus is to gain possession of the puck . In classification where body checking is allowed, the focus of the body check must be to gain possession of the puck ."

  • Not just that, Lebedev started with "my granddad was a deputy in Stalin's war cabinet" (joe.ie put his speech on youtube)

    BRUH?

"Everybody was really afraid to say anything"

YOUR GRANDDAD PLAYED ON THE OPPRESSOR'S TEAM

You cannot make this stuff up!

    (Also is Jordan's jacket OK)

  • Reminds me of Celebrity Deathmatch

  • Re. the Ice Hockey incident - cheers for the clarification, everything I keep hearing leaves out the details about what actually happened, and I'm thinking that a manslaughter charge is horrendous for what I assumed was just a gameplay incident. If it was aggressive and targeted, that's a bit different.

  • I can only imagine there was a lot of confusion to what actually happened, or the clubs/police asked to keep the initial report vague ?

It's full on psycho behaviour if a player actually aimed a kick at someone, the blades are insanely sharp, a hockey player would know how dangerous it was.

The most horrific thing I've ever seen in my life was someone kneecaping guy with his skate at the ally pally ice rink. An 8 year old me could have done without that blood stained image.

  • The game was being live streamed and you saw exactly what happened in excruciating detail

  • Wasn't Stalin on the right side during ww2?

Lebdev is more on the right...so to speak.

  • oh god peterson's hair

  • Didn't know anything about the circumstances of the death, the news mentioned a freak accident.

Skates in the air is not a freak accident

  • the blades are insanely sharp

    https://bshockey.com/how-sharp-are-hockey-skate-blades/

TIL. Random online source says the concave cut of hockey skate blades should be expected to shave a thin bit of nail if a fingernail is run across it lightly.

  • Fair dos, makes the reporting even more baffling.

  • The tweet with a GIF of the video of the incident is still online. I got sent it a couple of days ago. I'd have expected it to be pulled by now.

  • Mymost horrific event witnessed was at a bowling alley - a small kid runs behind their sibling just as they are making a backswing, and the bowling ball made a big dent in their face.

Stay away from leisure parks, kids.

  • Weirdly contradicting article, on the one hand says they're not that sharp but can finely cut a finger nail. I bet a lot of people's kitchens don't have a knife that can do that.

    Clearly sharp enough.

  • I think it means that if you drag your nail perpendicular to the blade, with a bit of down pressure, then it will scrape some of the surface of the nail off. Which even relatively blunt edges will do.

  • He used it in the context of "everybody was afraid to speak up during Stalin's regime"

Also, gulags, killing bolsheviks, entryism, war crime olympics, holodomir...

  • Lebedev just randomly picking two people with, shall we say, batshit opinions on the war in Ukraine.

  • Can I have a precis of what he is getting at as I'm not reading that stuff. Along with I don't read the mail, telegraph etc.
