Is it not for Boris to swoop into a safe seat as Uxbridge will more than likely fuck him off?
-
• #80953
If there are any safe seats left - they're currently predicted to win a grand total of about 40...

Johnson was spotted looking at schools in Henley, where he previously was the MP, with a Tory majority of 13-14,000, compared to his 6-7000 in Uxbridge & South Ruislip.
Henley might be one of the +/-40. -

He still owns a house in the constituency, just outside of Thame.
According to a friend, who's something to do with the Labour Party locally, it's pretty much a done deal. Sadly, they'd vote for anything with a blue rosette around these parts.

What if someone like Gauke stood against him as an independent?
-
• #80957
Who knows?
I'd imagine/hope that the Labour Party locally would throw everything at getting a good candidate to stand against Johnson. I'd just hope that Labour infighting doesn't stop them from doing that if they need to.

I’d have thought Labour see Johnson as an electoral asset for them, rather than a serious challenge. He might be popular with Conservative members, but he’s definitely not with the wider electorate.

I'd put a fiver on Kemi Badenoch being leader at the next election. A tenner on it not being Sunak. But who knows, they probably are mad enough to bring Johnson back.
-
• #80960
Badenoch as PM, Anderson as deputy and both standing on a platform of automatic death penalty for migrants and RNLI volunteers
-
• #80961
That's Midsomer Murders country round there, hopefully he'll have a nasty accident with a pitchfork or something if it happens.
I don't get why he would want to stay an MP though when his priority is meant to be earning as much money as possible to pay for all his children/divorces.
-
• #80962
The current round of cash is paybacks from favours he was able to do as PM. He can't continue to milk that if he can't do people favours in the future.

I would imagine Henley is a safe seat. Everyone cutting about in red trousers and boat shoes.
-
• #80965
I was on the train out that way for a bike race on the same day as Henley Regatta, never seen so many "first xv" blazers. Literal adults wearing their special school jacket to show off they played rugby.
-
• #80966
There seems to be no reason why he can't do both
-
• #80967
I can confirm Henley is choc full of cunts at the best of times
-
• #80968
Johnson is massively flaky, I can’t see him being happy on the opposition benches for any period of time. He’s just keeping his options open currently in the hope that Rishi then Labour implode.
-
• #80969
Johnson is obviously hanging on in case he gets a chance to be leader again, as well as claiming an MP's salary without any sign of having to do an MP's work. He may be sincere in his concern for Ukraine but it's also handy for getting him on the front pages and for continuing to be seen as an alternative leader without explicitly challenging Sunak. I doubt he will try though unless polling shows he would win - he's not big on losing.

I guess it's no different from football fans wearing the team shirt?
-
• #80971
or cyclists in full kit?
-
• #80972
it's more like being 25 years old and wearing the shirt of the team you played for when you were 16
-
• #80973
But it's the team you are going to go and watch? Lots of reasons to dislike hooray Henries but this doesn't feel like one of them.
-
• #80974
Henley Regatta is a boat race

That's the rumour, although she's denying it at the moment.
