  • almost without fail, they are cunts, full of self-entitlement and privilege

    I feel seen

  • An alleged fugitive fighting extradition to the US is seeking to be freed on bail from a Scottish jail because fellow prisoners are taunting him by singing John Denver’s hit Leaving on a Jet Plane

  • Sure schools can caring compassionate places but saying they must stay open because kids will suffer is obliging teachers to be social workers. It's not my job, I'm not in the profession to pick up all the bullshit left over by others failure.

  • You monster! You're doing important work that directly affects the future of the country for way too little pay and you don't want to go above and beyond more that you probably already are?

  • The rich kids will always have societal advantages, at least if they go to private schools you can identify their privilege and ding them for it at university entrance.

Taking away tax breaks would probably not achieve that much good as the schools would recoup the cost by taking away the "lip service" stuff they do to advocate for charitable status (bursaries, open facilities to local people in holidays etc).

  • I know plenty of people who were at fee paying schools some are arseholes, some are okay. The correlation seemed to be if they thrived, they were dicks, if they had a shit time, they emerged more human.

Don’t get me wrong if you can give your kid the advantage, it’s difficult to justify not sending them…don’t hate the player, hate the game. A good education is a wonderful thing. I just wish I had been afforded one

  • A good education is a wonderful thing

    but riding bikes is importanter.

  • I see a lot of feels going on.

You'd probably also need to introduce some sort of reverse funding policy like in NZ to prevent wealthy people living in expensive areas blocking out all their local schools and then contributing extra funding.

The whole system has so many built in advantages it's hard to really extract what is what:

Parents with high educational attainment send kids to good nursery > send kids to selective primary school where they filter out early high achievers > kids get focused education and pushed harder > go to better senior schools > get pushed harder > get put forward for subjects more likely to get into top unis > get into top unis > get better jobs > buy vitsoe shelving > etc. > etc.

We live not far from Habadashers and the entrance exam is nuts. Obviously you need money too, but can those kids (who I'd guess are among the most advanced in their cohort) ever be equally served by education designed for the broadest section of society?

  • I know. I'm just a cold heartless bastard. Just like the nurses who won't act like "angels".

The idea that the school system should be propped up until it's run down to a level seen in American public schools is bonkers.

  • Also they'd just pass on the costs further widening the gap between those who can afford it. It would probably put some smaller schools out of business too, as they'd struggle to compete with bigger ones while charging not dissimilar amounts.

However, they would be subject to the market like other businesses.

  • can those kids (who I'd guess are among the most advanced in their cohort) ever be equally served by education designed for the broadest section of society

It might do them some good not to grow up feeling quite so superior to the "broadest section of society"

  • Probably unnecessary India Today crime re-enactment:

  • A picture speaks k's words

  • they do this all the time, indian news on television is hilarious

  • Private schools don't need to be scrapped

Their charitable status needs to be scrapped, however, and their licence needs to include an obligation for significant numbers of affordable places.

While we're at it - selective schools should have either state funding removed entirely, or intake criteria to have a minimum of 50% nonselective (other than those employed by nonselective schools).

[Edit] so I'm a day late with all of this, it appears.

  • religions or religious schools getting tax breaks.

    This.

    Fuck that shit.

  • buy vitsoe shelving

Wait what - you mean I've made it? I can't even park my basic bitch dad car outside my shitbox house

  • they do this all the time, indian news on television is hilarious

pissing on passengers or re-enactment or both ?

  • I didn't know you could get a 4mm calibre revolver. But the police say it's lethal. This chap will be sentenced today. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/loski-drill-kennington-jyrelle-o-connor-harlem-spartans-gun-gang-court-b1050846.html

It makes quite a dent in a metal sheet. I wonder how deep it would go into someone's head? https://youtu.be/qPvqWq6hxwI

  • Its a really niche calibre. And cheap. You can buy one of those pistols and a box of ammo for less than 100 euros in the Czech Republic. Odd!
