It's the fact so many of those have been confirmed since that makes it such an amazing leak of Tory dirt
-

Is “being a bit handsy” an essential for a Tory MP or does it just help?

Reference to Jake Perry and impregnating 🤣

Anyone know what Rory Stewart’s ‘odd things’ were? I hope properly odd and not a common-or-garden handjob or wtvr.

Introduce him to Alastair Campbell?

He did say Kemi Badenoch was the future of the party and Liz Truss should stop posing on Instagram but it sounds like something more than that.
Obviously believes he's innocent

3/3 I hope the party will be as quick to conduct their enquiry as they were to rush to judgement. -

She (Sophie Bolsover) came out with a pretty strong statement that she had no idea what it was all about
-

Anybody know what Conor Burns is supposed to have done?
Something relatively serious I'd have thought if they're sacking him so promptly before any details at all came out.
-
• #78411
That’s what I was thinking. For this lot to act so quickly, it must be properly naughty.

You might want to have a read of the bombings/attempted bombings carried out by the suffragettes in 1913 alone then consider whether you need to gain a bit more perspective.

What's more remarkable is that it passed almost completely without comment, save a few days of tittle-tattle. Then it was quietly forgotten by most of the commentariat because they had better things to focus on. Would have been enough to finish a political party 30 years ago.

I suspect that's because most outlets were worried about getting sued.
-
• #78416
If that is true what Dan Poulter did, what a scumbag.
Looks like he sued The Times and won in 2017 when they published he harassed 3 wonen, but won as nobody came forward.
Hard to know but wtf...

You can't sue a publication for printing a story about the leak that also details what's alleged in the leak. The story appeared in loads of publications, then was quietly forgotten about.
-
• #78418
Aggi is mostly right - it was publicised, but there wasn't really anywhere you could take it. There were some truths on it, and most of those were known at the time (and some of those were a bit pedestrian in the context of the previously unknown allegations), but most of it was basically a list of accusations without substantiation. It was also unattributable to a source.
If a publication wanted to explore the specifics of an accusation they'd be sued - essentially slander, but could be wrong.
-

there wasn't really anywhere you could take it.
Objectively, you're right. But that kind of objectivity hasn't stopped our media/commentariat taking much less scandalous stuff - say, a politician liking a post about saving a mural several years ago - and running with it at high volume for months on end, has it? And I'd invite you to wonder why that might be and what kind of agenda that would suggest said commentariat/media had at the time.

"One shop village" they said on the news yesterday - village shop, post office counter, hairdresser, petrol station all in the same place.
-
• #78425
The petrol station shop is quite a bit more in Ireland than over here, much more part of the community than the chains here.
Best place for a sandwich on the go is a petrol station deli counter!
I was going to where my Donegal gaa, (mother is from there), top down the gym as usual’ish today but couldn’t bear to wear it.
Horrendously sad, just read some guy just stopping with his young kid dead, awful.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha.
Superb stuff, Kwarteng gets around as he was also ‘assisting’ Amber Rudd, must have made him feel like a Master of the Universe ( I’m thinking in Tom Wolfe terms but the alternative works too)
