  • Coventry's likely even more alien to them than Birmingham

    Coventry is spesh.

It's citizens were sacrificed to the blanket bombing to ensure the nazis didn't realise Bletchley had cracked the code.

The old, bombed cathedral is very moving. There is a vibe of sacrifice and betrayal in various Coventry institutions and architecture. Worth a visit

Still, it's another Midlands car-strangled town centre, like Brum, Wolverhampton etc.

    Though keep shtum...

  • Spon Street shows Coventry was more similar to Stratford-upon-Avon than the Black Country of the West Midlands.

Second this, the cathedral is probably the best building in the UK, an absolute masterpiece. There's some great post-war architecture unfortunately some of it has been been ruined with some dreadful recent additions, e.g. removing the upper walkways to central shopping precinct and sticking a dreadful building right in front of the church. The William Mitchell murals at the former three tuns pub are absolutely amazing.

  • Get them on a night out in Nuneaton

Oooof, not sure even Truss deserves that.

  • They keep the cars down by making it impossible to get off the ring road though.

  • The trouble is Truss and Kwarteng are so bad it will be easier for the Tories to get rid of them than if they were simply useless and give time for a new leader to rebuild support. There's plenty of previous ministers just waiting to come back who will look good by comparison. Well, a few. Then again, there's a good chance they will fuck that up too. I'm not sure that people will quite so easily believe that the new lot are not tainted by what has happened the last couple of years one way or another.

  • Everyone will forget about it when they are having a british grown tomato while waiting for their kids to finish school at 4 before going to the new BP sponsored GP surgery next to the wellhead

  • Coventry is spesh.

It's where the modern bicycle was developed too. John Kemp Starkey, James Starley, n'all that.

Edit: which of course you will know too, having visited in 2008-ish if not other times as well ;)

    Your memory is impressive
    Tony Ben would be proud

  • I had to spend a night in Nuneaton at an F1 themed hotel when my mini broke down on the way to Reading festival, I ended up spending money I didn't have on a new alternator and a shit car themed room with lungs full of battery acid when what I wanted to be doing was taking drugs in a field, to be fair to the garage my car was ready in the morning and the recovery guy had left it outside and posted the keys through the door the evening before. /csb

  • Truss continuing to sink Conservatives on Laura K morning interview. Gove immediately undercutting her key policies on the same program lol.

  • Yeh was solid work from Gove basically saying he couldn't vote for her policies

  • Gove is a cunt, was sidelined and just trying to be relevant again.

Believe that he believes nothing that comes out of his supercilious mouth

  • JRM getting a lovely warm welcome in Birmingham

  • Gutted for him

  • does no one get egged or creampied any more? wasted opportunity

  • Haha, what a cunt!! He is my MP and I fucking hate him.

  • CBI director-general Tony Danker when asked if the abolition of the 45p upper rate of income tax would drive growth.

“If you ask me for 30 measures that are going to drive up growth, I wouldn’t put it in the top 30…”

    Woke CBI

  • Tony Danker

Now this is a name I haven't heard in 30 years - allow me to enter full csb mode... Danker was a few years older than me at school, and about twice my size, so was cast as my father in a school play in his final year. It was a depressing Joyce-inspired piece where a guy has a shit day and comes home drunk and beats up his son in the final scene. Looking back, non-standard school play fare.

We had it really well blocked so it looked realistically violent and was pretty shocking for the audience, but I didn't get hurt. However, on the last night, he turned up actually pissed and thought it would be funny to kick my shit in for real. Cunt totally battered me in front of 500 people and got an ovation. [/csb]

    Also,

    CBI director-general

    I feel like a real under-achiever now...

  • Sounds like you need to speak to the press and eff him in.

Steve Baker apologies, bit late but sure they are very, very slow learners. We will see the benefit of their learning in 2050 ;)
