I wouldn't count losing an election by the numbers they did as huge support.
Vocal support maybe?

an election by the numbers they did
First, the numbers from 2017
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/jeremy-corbyn-election-result-vote-share-increased-1945-clement-attlee-a7781706.html%3famphttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election/2017/results
And that was after 2 years of media attacks. Of course 2019 was a worse result but that's after 4 years of attacks.
If you don't think the right wing media attacks whoever is leading the Labour Party at the whim of the Torys and that it effects the election results then there's nothing more I can say.

Out of curiosity does anyone have any proper fact based analysis of why Labour lost?
At the last election Brexit was still a major factor so it's hard to have a straight apples with apples vs other periods.
-
• #76730
It lost the last election because of Brexit, lies about antisemitism and Brexit. And a bad campaign. And the useful idiocy of Johnson.
-
• #76731
lies about antisemitism
Reasonably offensive line to take. Concerns about anti-Semitism aren't lies.
Pretty sure that there have been studies which attributed this to a number of factors. Yes Brexit, but also no not just Brexit
-
• #76732
From memory the conservatives only gained 1% of vote share with lots of labour voters switching to lib dem. In terms of number of voters rather than seats.

Reasonably offensive line to take. Concerns about anti-Semitism aren't lies
Obviously any anti-semitism should be condemned but the media focus on the labour party wasn't just convenient.
-
• #76734
lies about antisemitism
Oh shit, popcorn in 3,2,1 …
I’m sure polling at the time showed that your average voter didn’t really care about antisemitism in the Tory party or the Labour Party.
-
• #76735
Not easy when you have a leasehold/flat.
-
• #76736
Because they didn't have a coherent strategy to win enough votes from swing voters or to win enough seats to take parliament.
-
• #76737
The Canary - srsly? Should at least post GB News’ view for balance.
-
• #76738
I was waiting for that.
How to spot the telegraph readers - mention the name Corbyn.
🤡 -
• #76739
If you already know it’s crappy journalism then don’t post it - even if it does align with your world view!
-
• #76740
I shouldn't even be having to try and argue the point that the guy was popular in 2015-17. It's an obvious fact. I only even mentioned Corbyn in the first place as an example of how the right wing media attacks Labour, I could have used Milliband or hell even Brown.
But that doesn't matter to the petty secret Tories, they've got to argue about the example rather than engaging with the actual point, which unironically is how all the right wing shitheels "debate" too.
Clowns. -
• #76742
You may be replying to someone else. I didn’t say anything about Corbyn, I just think that the Canary is a terrible outlet with zero quality control or fact checking standards.
-
• #76743
Sorry who are the 'petty secret Tories' here?
Is it me, because I think that anti-Semitism in the Labour party wasn't made up?
-
• #76744
No, and I'm not arguing there was. Although it would be nieve to think it wasn't also politicised
-
• #76745
There aren't any secret tories here, they're all in the golf club...
-
• #76746
I enjoy being a secret Tory at the weekend once I've stocked up on enough lube in the week.
-
• #76747
Why has Corbyn done this to us?
-
• #76748
Perversely, according to estimates I read the cost of nationalising gas would be a lot less that the 29bn Labour plan - by a ridiculous degree.
Edit as @greentricky points out, I've conflated the estimated cost to nationalise the Big 5 Energy companies with the cost of Labour's gas price freeze proposal.
-
• #76749
It is being quoted that it would cost less than £3bn to nationalise the energy retailers, the £29bn is to subsidise the purchase of the fuel, they are two separate things
-
• #76750
But it's a news thread. What has Corbyn and his fans at glasto got to do with how Starmer can beat Truss at the GE? The secret tory is you, trying to wreck Labour's chances at the next election by droning on with the disastrous student politics of another era.
Again. Not my point.
