He was a part time TA officer and a journalist.
Daddy was a high court judge and uncle is a Baron and in the lord's. So is basically as establishment as they get.
Oh and he is a Tory so a c....t
However he's half french, married to a French judge (also establishment) and did Islamic studies and speaks Arabic so is kind of letting the side down.

Why was there a live TV debate?
Who was this debate for?
There are five contestants and only sitting Tory mp’s get the vote at this stage. When it gets to 2 then it goes to the Conservative party membership which has fewer than 180,000 in its ranks. And it may not even go to them if a deal is struck and one of the final two withdraws.
The rule should be that if one withdraws the third place candidate is added to make it up to two.
It’s a mad world we live in. -

I totally get the sentiment of people being fed up with the government and attitudes towards those who are trafficked or seek refuge or even economic migrants.
What I would say, from my own recent experience we have things to be proud of. Could we do better sure, should the responsibilities fall the way they do perhaps not, that shouldn’t detract from the fact that what we do for others is still pretty amazing.
The we is both an individual and collective responsibility though. -

These police and crime commissioner jobs are a bit of a joke, aren't they? I seem to remember it was a Cameron-era "big society" thing that somehow hung around.

They do seem a bit weird. I think they all report to the Home Sec so perhaps working for Priti Patel is part of the problem though.

Not sure there's a need to clarify, but worth doing anyway - she stood as a Tory.

It was a half-arsed attempt at creating something like U.S. sherrifs - politicians inserted into the police with the hope of it being a populist vote winner. Hasn't worked in any way.
As I recall, it was actually a combination of Conservative and Lib Dem ideas. I bet the Lib Dems are standing quietly in the corner, whistling and hoping nobody remembers that.
