The ERG are her legacy
The irony being that Thatcher was pretty pro the economic aspects (e.g. the single market), which the ERG headbangers now find unpalatable.

That was my initial observation of that poll too. Strangely overlooked elsewhere.

Has he actually resigned? He never said he has resigned, just that he will agree a new timetable to set a new leader. He's still going to "deliver his mandate" apparently.

See David Allen Green's tweets. Now the replacement leader process has started it will eventually lead to his removal, whether he likes it or not.

That's superb

Not sure if it’s been mentioned up the thread, I’ve not been able to keep up today.
Apparently, the reason he wants to hang around as interim leader is he has a large wedding party book for Chequers in couple of weeks, delayed since covid.
Sounds about right.

Well played Hugh grant and activists

Yeah, but no date confirmed and he's promising to carry out his "mandate" in the meantime. I put it in quotes as it's a surrogate for doing what he wants, rather than now building hospitals and leveling up all of a sudden.
Still a reason to push him out next week for some surely.

We desperately need a form of proportional representation.
Forever this. NZ did it 25 years ago.

In the vain attempt to properly usher him out the door you could sign a petition. Or rock up to No 10.

There was a post a couple of hours before yours !
I'd assumed he wanted to beat the length of May's term to move a place up in the shortest serving PM league table.
If it is about some sort of bash at Chequers, I sincerely hope that he's crowd funding it from his Tory and Russian backers and that 'hard working families' and tax payers won't be picking up the tab. Still, the guest list might be a little shorter than it would have been at the weekend!

In his speech, Johnson blamed the parliamentary tory party and acknowledged no fault of his own. Is he going to copy yet another trick of Trump's and build up a vengeful support base among the ordinary membership?
Tory mps must have been snorting in disbelief when he promised to support his successor; that he will never do.

Somebody shot Shinzo Abe. Despite some Obituaries-lurking ghoul having already updated his Wikipedia page to say "was a...", I don't think there's any confirmation of his status atm.
I mean, really.
