Surprised by the responses here. Not bothering to name Roberta Flack or cropping her out of the image are both examples of sub-conscious bias that give rise to pervasive racism. I thought we had got past the point where the only form of racism recognised was overt white supremacism?
How can we form an opinion when we haven't seen the article or context of the photo?

If people are curious, here it is.
I'd assume it was accidental on the basis that there are plenty of black artists correctly named in this gallery, but hey...accidental stuff can be racist too.

The local tory councillor around here is called Stephen and is "a very nice man" and responds and "cares" about local issues for local people.
I don't know the Labour councillor. -

(taking this at face value) Voting Tory in any way, however good they are locally is enabling the cunts at the top and that, IMO, cannot be allowed to go on. So I'm a centrist Dad voter (Croydon Labour are incredibly shit).

Yes - I know that but hey " lets keep politics out of it yeah " ?

All about the Greens/Independents for us at home. (Tory area though)
Noted the Tories have 'Local Conservatives' on their literature, as even they are holding their noses at Johnson's shower.

I'm in the most true blue area going, in 2018, Lab and Lib Dem both got about 300 votes, with the Tories on just over 1000, no other parties were standing.
We'd normally just vote labour, but this time we're going for the Lib Dems. I'm seeing more Lib posters in the area than ever before and I'm thinking true blue tory cunts are more likely to vote lib Dem than Labour.
There's been zero campaigning from anybody, I assume the Tories just expect to be re elected whatever happens and the other party feel the same.

SF may be the biggest party after the DUP who normally take nr1.
As stormont has a proportional voting system with a lot of MLAs and both first and second minister hold equal power, practically it makes no difference. Symbolically however...
I don't vote SF but the DUP tears may be hilarious tomorrow 😈
And as we have STV you vote down the list "vote till you boak (throw up)" so lots of fun to be had later today.

My non blue sis reckons her ward is going from red to blue :/

I think people like to have something to complain about. Voting Tory means you can complain about the liars in power, complain about the rising cost of living and complain that labour don’t offer a credible alternative.
-
• #72563
Purely from my personal perspective I see people saying stuff around Boris or the Cons doing bad stuff but they're the best of a bad bunch/Labour would have done worse, the terrorists. Then left leaning people saying they can't vote Labour due to Starmer/Corbyn/Momentum/too centre left/too far left. And what ends up happening is the shits still vote in the Cons while left leaners don't vote in Labour, next thing you know we've got 12 years of austerity, the biggest fall in living standards since the war and a pathological liar for a PM.
-
• #72564
^ Yup. If you don't vote against them AND for the party most likely to win, then they get in. I can't see it any other way. Break the cycle first, then argue about the minutiae. Otherwise it's all a bit People's Front of Judea.

I'd be tempted to do the same as you but our local lib dem campaign has really wound me up.
Lib Dem Blackheath Ward:
END THE ONE PARTY STATE! (of no Lib Dem councillors in Blackheath Ward)
and
LABOUR COUNCILLORS ARE BUSSED IN AND DONT REPRESENT YOU OR YOUR AREA! (from 2 miles down the road)
I mean seriously. If the best you can come up with is vote for us because everybody keeps voting for the other guys and the others lives in SE13 instead of SE3 is your best bet of winning votes...

This shit makes we want scream, our fucking shit first passed the post system means you aren't voting for want you want, you have to vote for what you hate the least.

This weekend could be messy if/when SF get the top job.

Or what has most chance of unseating what you hate the most.

I was surprised to see (when I got my ballot paper) that only Labour, Lib Dems and Conservatives were standing in my ward. There's normally a few random independents and Greens but obviously they didn't bother.
There's been bugger all campaigning near me though, Labour have done a little (even though they are bound to win) and haven't seen hide nor hair of the other two parties.

Same. We’ve spoken with the Greens candidate, who Mrs c00ps knows anyway. But no leaflets and no doorstep canvassing. Odd.

• #72571
Unfortunately, many on the left will never forgive Keir Starmer for the offence of being democratically elected leader of the party, and seeing the Tories in power is preferable to seeing the wrong Labour leader succeed. It’s pathetic.
-
• #72572
Yep, Lanark way might be "fun" again.
DUP brought it on themselves with backing Brexit but not the backstop or anything else.
-
• #72573
I see this sentiment a lot, from those more interested in mud-slinging than anything else. Remember when the roles were reversed and Labour MPs actually went as low as to advocate voting Tory? Neither side of the party came out of the last 6 years well, pretending otherwise won't solve much will it?
-
• #72574
I remember it very well - the reason I finally joined the Labour Party was because I wanted to help ensure that Corbyn wasn’t forced out against the will of the party membership. The internal sectarian horseshit was pathetic then, and it’s pathetic now.

We had a few independents for the Croydon Mayor. My favourite was the fella who closed his proposal in the leaflet with the catchy slogan 'Croydon needs an enema!'
Why is Bob Hoskins holding a Grammy?
Also mislabelled as "Paul Simon"
And "David Bowie" is clearly a dracula.
edit: missed a page of chatter about this, sorry.
