Totally. The issue is that it's just too late. The US / UK have massive inequality already and something could be done but it'll have to get much worse (like SA) before anything happens.

This, the anti-monarchy protests in Eswatini, the jihadist insurgency in northern Mozambique and added Zimbabwean regularly scheduled chaos could destabilise the region into long horrible conflicts.

Someone who lives near me spent months paving over a large front garden getting dropped kerbs etc. and painting 9 separate parking spaces on it presumably to cash in on the CPZ around Hither Green station and charging people to park.

It was completed only weeks before the COVID-19 lockdown made it virtually worthless.

I love how even Andrew Neil is trying to distance himself from the shit show.

It really depends on the council whether vehicular crossovers are permitted to residents. The problem is that it leaves the council with a footway that will be driven over, and hence an additional maintenance problem. There may also now well be a council policy not to give planning permission for turning a front garden into a car park, but many people obviously do that, anyway, and if there's no dropped kerb, a large 4x4 nowadays doesn't really need one (unless the footway is very high), and there are perfectly good movable ramps that you can buy.

StreetView doesn't seem to get there too often, and the conversion of the front garden into a car park seems to have occurred at some point between 2014 and 2020.

There's also the fact that the part of the highway in front of the drive can then only be parked in front of by them, removing the option for others to park there.
Obviously their car is now off the road so there's one less car parking on the road but the space that was once available to everyone is now theirs as well.

Maybe that's a small problem on the whole. Someone near me tried exactly the same thing but had obviously not arranged it with the council as it was only a matter of weeks before the "don't park here, drive in constant use" was taken down and the drive remains unused with neighbours parking in front again.

In Lambeth the pavement is reinforced at the households expense, the council can paint a white no parking line but won’t enforce it.( I’m planning to do one at some point to allow for an EV).
