  • From that Guardian article:

The one exception was the city of Hull, where the government sent a team of psychiatrists and psychologists to study why the populations apparently panicked after heavy raiding. The subsequent report, The Mental Stability of Hull, was based on interviews with hundreds of survivors. These case studies showed that people developed serious psychosomatic conditions, including involuntary soiling and wetting, persistent crying, uncontrollable shaking, headaches and chronic dizziness; men were found to indulge in heavy drinking and smoking after a raid, and prone to developing peptic ulcers. One woman was bombed out of three different houses, and watched the death of her sister and her five children. Her symptoms indicated an exceptional level of nervous collapse.

Nevertheless, the conclusion from Hull was that its mental stability was nothing to worry about.

That is a remarkable thing to read and try to comprehend.

  • can't believe no ones compared the parish council meeting to the trump presidency yet

    or boris's cabinet

  • although, to be fair the trump presidency was far more bonkers and chaotic

  • From today’s daily fail

  • Headline should have been "They're dreading it".

  • As apparently the UK is now a net exporter of cannabis I’m surprised the
Mail didn’t spin it as a Brexit win story

Anyone know what the tweet was? This seems nuts on the face of it.

  • Scots love to prosecute hate speech.

  • Anyone know what the tweet was?

    Closest I've found, but unconfirmed.

  • Cheers, guys. Seems like a pretty extreme response. The fact that the BBC won't even report it in the context of news. Crazy.

  • If it's Scotland I guess there's possible links to sectarianism.

  • Ahhhh. Didn't consider that.

  • Perhaps the BBC are concerned about possible prejudice of any trial?

  • Surprised you can get charged for that (depending on what he actually wrote) but I suppose it’s hate speech against Brits

  • If someone reported and there were sectarian connotations then it is a religiously aggravated offence.

  • Bit of a jump to seeing that tweet as be religious prejudice for me. I see it could be construed as Irish nationalist but a specific religious sentiment, especially as it doesn’t seem directed at any one individual or group not so sure.

  • "It's OK guys, the Troubles had nothing to do with religious persecution. It was just uppity Irish Nationalists, they were the problem....."

Granted, on the whole, a protestant reporting that they are feeling persecuted by a catholic is a bit rich (saying that coming from a protestant family). Sectarianism is religiously motivated.

  • The guy was in Scotland though

  • I can't tell if this is a response to me and you don't realise sectarianism is a problem in Scotland. Or a response to underuser53929 and you are trying to point that out to them.

  • Sorry I was looking at it from a potential evidence p.o.v

I’ve only seen the reddit post above, there’s nothing there that says the poster was referring to the troubles, he could argue he has a strong dislike of the British army for any number of reasons so may be harder to prove, like saying fuck the police

Also as I understand the Scottish law, which is very little, the offence has certain components which may be lacking here.. This bloke hasn’t mentioned religion and hasn’t (as far as I can see) made the comments either to or about a member of a religion, or where members of a religion/ culture are congregating such as at a football match. So is there a full religious harassment offence?

Unfortunately the exact charge has not been published afaik, but bbc said it was a communication offence, not sure if there’s a religious section on those or if it’s just gross offensive. Scratch that last bit communication offences have a religion category too.

  • Will bet a pound to a penny it's a Celtic fan trying to either out-anti-Brit his Celtic mates or wind up Rangers fans. Each side's headbangers are the same as the other. When I lived there the sectarianism was every bit as bad as growing up in Belfast.

  • Yup, sounds about right IMO.

Stay home, protect the NHS, save lives. Or go out jogging when you know it's icy and take up some time in A&E.
