Some fun characters aside, that show was never OK was it.

Total shit, can’t believe so many people are apparently devastated.

Even at the time, with the writters there to justify their work, there was some doubt as to whether the characters were acceptable. Especially as the series and jokes went on.

I've not seen it since the ones I saw on release, I can't imagine it's aged well.

Some fun characters aside, that show was never OK was it.

I always thought that was the point, the jokes themselves were never actually funny, just a series of catchphrases used too much, but that the joke was also the absurdity and offensiveness of the characters and costumes.

The film Gone With The Wind has been removed from a platform due to racist content.
This will end up a long list.

Disney edited out a bunch of racist scenes from movies in preparation for the Disney + launch. I really don't know how I feel about this. I am quite conflicted about it. Feels much more like attempting to modify history than removing statues of racists to me. A racist in a film is not quite the same as displaying an effigy of a racist on a plinth.

It seems mad to be. Times have changed and people should understand that. The biggest progress should surely be when people are genuinely shocked or surprised by something they watch.

We had it on the week trial and I watched something or other which began with a disclaimer saying something about the movie being presented in full however there are some cultural depictions which they believe are outdated.

I might have to stand heavily corrected. I sit next to a Disney exec at football and he told me that they were considering doing it. I then read some articles that said that they had done so to a release of Dumbo, but it turns out that they changed their minds. I'm actually quite pleased to hear this.

Gone with the wind is coming back, unedited according to Disney. They've removed it in order to add something at the beginning giving historical context.

If that's actually the case, it seems like the best option to me...

@starfish&coffee P'raps a couple of the characters were spot-on and indeed as a reflection of a country there is plenty in this isle of ours that feels pretty ugly, what I couldn't take was the barely hidden smugness of the two of them. I barely watched if for those reasons but the show being lauded reminded me of how the guy who came up with the FCUK logo/acronym for French Connection was hailed as some sort of advert/marketing genius rather than a hustler/purveyor of what Martin Amis had down in a pithy phrase as just another example of the 'obscenification of everyday life' or something like that. Interesting how the Fast Show is still funny, apposite and will last.
