my samsung phones work just as well after 2 years as when i bought them, every iphone i've owned was slow to the point of being unusable before my 2yr contract was up.

Delete the facebook app and turn off all the transition effects sorted this for me.

My 2 year old iPhone is incredibly, maddeningly slow. But Android is a security nightmare, so I'm sticking to Apple for now. I might have to buy a new one though, annoyingly, as we have a year left on these handsets.

Apple is primarily a hardware company and doesn't have the scope to be as malign as Google. Their attempt at cloud applications/services has been woeful; they'd probably like to be as evil as Google but don't yet have the chops.
There's a significant number of people who hate iTunes.

You know when you put a question mark at the end of a sentence that it might be quicker to just google it?
And give away your innermost thoughts and desires to the man?

iTunes hates itself I think.

Have you ever used Google Play?

Both Apple and Google bent over for the NSA I think. Not so sure you can really claim that either is better with your data than the other.

I'm still on an iPhone 5 (not a 5S, a 5). No FB app installed and it's fine for all I need.
Last iPhone I bought brand new was my first ever iPhone 3, everything else has been under £150 second hand from eBay usually every 2 years, can usually get £50-£75 for the old phone too.
Next one will be an iPhone SE once the prices come down a bit.

My iPhone 6s is running smooth as new 3 years on. I don’t have Facebook or shitty effects on.

Great to show the GF this today. This hoarding is in fact for our future..

The anecdotes are nice but Apple fessed up to slowing older phones, albeit blaming 'flagging batteries'.
I had mine replaced, as did my gf, didn't fix it. Tried rolling back updates (which become essential for apps) didn't fix it. Didn't ever have FB, or use special effects.
Their offer was a discount on a newer model, I bought a Moto 6 for less and it's been great...

Good to read this morning that organ donation consent will be presumed now. Ceremonial tearing up of the donor card I think! I’m

Naaah.... I won't argue against the general sentiment, but surely that list was just the seven brands for which they could source attractive high resolution photographs.
Perhaps I have missed something, but does anyone get particularly excited about vintage Bianchis? And how about Hetchins, Plum, 3Rensho etc?

The cuntishness over not paying tax in Ireland. Yes the government let it happen, yes a lot of companies are at it, but when the EU fined the Irish gov for knowingly letting Apple do this, the CEO made some sovereignty hinting comments. That was really one bridge too far for me.
Oh and their new laptops need a million adapters to plug in. Nope. Lenovo and normal ports for me.

I find it fairly incredible that the Guardian (and, seemingly, the police) calls these people 'protesters':
It's sickeningly reminiscent of fascist thuggery, not protest.

meanwhile across the pond, local activists are set upon by the police as they object to known white supremacist thugs being given free access to their streets.

About time, after years of dicking customers around with ridiculously expensive cables for custom connections, proprietary extensions to open standards and shifting the goal posts on all of hose.
Except that they're still treating the customers like patsies. The cheaper Mac models only got standard USB C ports, leaving customers who chose those with a lot of obsolete Thunderbolt 2 kit. You have to pay premium to get a USB-C/Thunderbolt-3 port.
My 2013 MBP is still smashing it.
They do need to update stuff to keep it secure and support whatever apps and the web are demanding. But yeah annoying. That said I can still run Euro Sport Player on our Mark 2 iPad.
I see Apple - probably wrongly - as the most benign of the behemoths. They charge a fair whack but they don't snoop on your stuff. I think. Hmmmm.
