  • I in no way intended to suggest that I am not partly responsible.

  • I worked out that's about a seventh of the Thames flow rate, which sounds less impressive.

  • We all are that's the problem. We're a hideous species.

  • To reduce your impact for anyone interested:

    1. Minimise driving as much as possible
    2. Minimise flying across continents
    3. Minimise consumption of beef and dairy
    4. Minimise consumption of other meat

Very roughly in order of impact. Recycling has a pretty tiny impact (in terms of GHGs, waste of natural resources is a separate problem). But people are often surprised that milk is worse than chicken for example (g CO2 per g protein). And one flight to America is approximately as bad as driving for an entire year.

I've cut out a lot, but am reluctantly giving up veganism for the next month (not enough time and energy to cook for 30 mins every day) and flying to Nepal soon so not so great right now

  • I would say the overwhelming sentiment amongst my climate scientist friends is what @hoefla said. We done goofed and the planet's irreversibly screwed

Must be a riot at parties

  • Yeah, buy America has loads of awesome places to drive and steak to eat.... worth a flight.

  • ^ going to steal for the memes thread

  • Riot frequency will increase as climate change has more of an impact and we experience more draughts, food shortages, higher prices, etc.

    It's depressing, yeah

  • To Iceland!

  • I sadly put oat milk in my coffee. No matter what the ads say, it doesn't taste the same. That the planet is still being destroyed at the same rate is little comfort. I probably shouldn't be drinking coffee either. Doooomed. We're all doomed.

When the apocalypse comes, I'll maybe toast the burning inferno with a milky coffee as I curse all the profligate fucks that idled their cars in front of the school gates, didn't recycle and voted in climate change deniers.

  • Pretty sure my oat milk is imported from sweden, the vegan meat replacements I actually enjoy eating are south african, we can't seem to do anything the right way.

  • Brexit will fix all of these things

  • The Barista Oatly is alright for frothy stuff, but yeah, plant milks are by and large shit. I forced myseld to like espresso and black coffee instead.

But yeah, most people aren't willing to make even the tiniest sacrifice like giving up meat for one meal a week or getting the bus into work. Planet's fucked. Goodnight, sweet prince.

  • I'm honestly trying to work out if this is comedy or not.

  • You mean the last paragraph?

  • Yeah, it's just the juxtaposition of your previous dramatic posts "we done fucked it", along with the "don't fly anywhere", "but I'm flying to Nepal" made me wonder.

  • Elon musk will save us all

  • "Free next-to-useless mini submarines for everyone!"

  • The Reverend Kris Korda his/her Church is worth looking into.

  • Nope, not a joke unfortunately.

I wrote a big long comment but deleted it. The point is, living in modern society is a big fat compromise. I do more than most and it's okay for me (and everyone) to not be perfect all the time, as long as we all collectively do enough to prevent irreversible damage.

(I didn't mean "never fly" and "never drive" etc. - I should have just said reduce)

Edit: I work in a climate change dept. I don't do climate change myself but am doing atmospheric stuff. I am no doubt misinformed about the future of the planet but less so than most I hope.

  • If we posit that humans are the problem then the most effective way of removing said problem (significant climate change, rioting/wars/Mad-Max dystopia and eventual extinction) would be hastened by doing nothing about climate change. So the most effective way of bringing about a total cure would be to fly everywhere whilst wearing a suit made out of steak and pouring litres of milk into the carpet.

  • And driving v8s

  • As a minimum.
