  • First thing I did was log back into IG and check Tizer was OK... Nasty business...

  • Yeah, thankfully he seems to be away. Hope he's ok. If they're graf artists they're certainly to be his mates.

  • I know, was just wondering where the rumour came from.

Several helicopter videos now showing they were up on the tracks that run behind those shallow houses on Coldharbour lane. Up in behind the Tesco Express. So a different level than the tracks at the LJ platforms.

  • Apparently the original source for that line was from a member of Network Rail staff.
That staff member told someone, who in turn told someone who tweets.

  • PA now running this:
(Victims were three men in their 20s)

SPRAY CANS FOUND AS THREE DIE AFTER BEING HIT BY TRAIN
By Neil Lancefield and Alan Jones, Press Association
Spray cans have been found near where three people died after being struck by a train.
The incident occurred on tracks near Loughborough Junction station, south London, which is an area popular with graffiti artists.
British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the scene at 7.30am on Monday but rail industry sources told the Press Association the paint was found nearby and the three people may have been killed overnight, when freight trains operate.
Officers were seen taking photographs of graffiti as part of their inquiries.
The bodies were found on an elevated section of track with an electric third rail between Brixton and Denmark Hill.
BTP stated that they were hit by a train but was unable to confirm whether it was a freight or passenger service. There were no reports of any passenger trains being involved.
Detective Superintendent Gary Richardson said: "My team are now working hard to understand what happened and how these three people came to lose their life on the railway.
"My thoughts are with the family and friends of these three people.
"At this time, we are treating their deaths as unexplained as we make a number of immediate inquiries.
"I would ask anyone who was near to Loughborough Junction this morning, and saw something which they think might be relevant, please contact us as soon as possible."
Rail regulator the Office of Rail and Road has opened a preliminary investigation.

  • Yeah, the Graff heads will know if it is 😕. either way it's a terrible loss of young life.

  • jesus christ.

/i hasten to add that this post is meant in no way to distract from the tragedy of this event.

  • lol, typical gammon.

  • epic fail and epic wtf.....epic gamon

  • I rate that piece of gammon-signalling at 3 pineapples.

  • Seriously scary language being used.

  • “Unfortunately, you need to keep Italian Roma in Italy.”

    global fascism. it's the future.

  • Utterly, utterly depressing.

Only 85 years ago and people are already starting all over again.

  • to be fair to Italy, those ever so innovative Swedes got there first by a few years so...

    https://sverigesradio.se/sida/artikel.aspx?programid=2054&artikel=6703595

The Swedes did at least do it on the sly instead of boasting about it I suppose, but then their PR has always been pretty good at making themselves look incredibly progressive and tolerant whilst doing unspeakably racist things...

  • Sure, but that was an illegal database. In Italy, it now looks as if the government intends to pass a 'law' to that effect.

  • Any chance you could find another source for that Oliver? The standards practice of putting comment sections on reports detailing tragic deaths really isn't something any of us should be comfortable with.

  • Well, here's the Guardian article:

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/jun/19/tributes-graffiti-artists-killed-loughborough-junction-train-london

I expect that will have a comments section on it, too, though.

I'm a little blind to comments as I access newspaper web-sites without Javascript enabled, so that I usually never see them.

(Obviously, as I've said before, I don't consider the Standard a good newspaper, either, but unfortunately it is London's main paper.)

  • Another horrible miscarriage of justice. I've read about this once or twice before.

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/jun/18/debbie-sims-africa-free-prison-move-nine-philadelphia-police

Plenty of people still in prison, though. It's just unimaginable to lose most of your life like that.

  • werd.

it wasn't a judgement against you, more the ghoulish standard. fuck those guys.

  • Illegal only after the point a journalist found out about it you mean... Nice grey area for them to work in. I did a project with Roma street musicians in Gothenburg, where the city actually made street music illegal to try and get rid of them. Then Swedish musicians complained and they tabled a motion to repeal the ban but didn't vote it through, again creating a convenient grey area to let the police selectively target some groups but leave others be. Sneaky...

  • Well, I only have the article to go by, but that does seem to suggest that it was illegal from the start to keep such a register (as it currently is in Italy). Certainly, there was no explicit finding by the relevant commission before it became public knowledge, but the laws that made it illegal were clearly in place. I'm not really sure what you mean by 'grey area'--yes, they kept it secret, so it was a grey area in that sense, but I don't read it as if it was ever a grey area in the legal sense? (I obviously understand that law enforcement agencies quite often overstep the limits of their power and practise unlawful procedures until reined in, e.g. by such an outcry, so I assume that's what you mean.) The Göteborg case you cite seems more complicated--and yes, leaving such a situation unresolved and in limbo certainly does create a grey area legally. (I've probably missed something in the background to the first case.)

Is it just me that increasingly fears we are in the period of time historians of the future will point to and say "there were red flags, these were the key points before the great war"

Im sure theres a snappier phrase than that but im packing to go live in the northern wilds of greenland to hide away from everything thats about to happen.

  • Could either be the start of something beautiful (the big proliterian pushback) or something terrible (the homo sapien extinction event)... Or just business as usual 'til the next lot get into the White House...
