He looks a bit forrin

perhaps i'm being overly cynical but can't help but wonder if javid - a man that voted for every bit of current tory immigration policy - was hoofed in there because his swarthiness might downplay the notion that the home office, under the stewardship of the tory party, exists primarily to implement cruel policies aimed at non-white people.
"well he can't be a racist, he's got a touch of the tar brush in him!"

Nobody points with their arm at that angle. He must've just caught a load of illegals in a spidey-web.
-
• #52156
or he's inviting you to "sniff yer mum"...
-
• #52157
I'd call that realism by now, not cynicism...
-
• #52158
When I heard on the news that he'd been appointed reference was made to him being the son of an immigrant bus driver and could have suffered from the "Windrush problem" himself ...
-
• #52159
But then he consistently votes with the government on immigration, so against immigration and against EU citizen rights after Brexit.
So, it does sound a bit like a sales pitch to me :/

radio 4 managed to frame the entire scandal in terms of whose career prospects had been damaged as a result. not a word about or from any of the actual victims, who seem to matter about as much to the bbc as they do to the tory party.

It's got a whiff of Malcolm Tucker about it...

I think if you support diversity in the top levels of British politics then, irrespective of the motives, you should support the promotion of BAME and female politicians even if you disagree with their politics.
-
• #52163
i don't think being disgusted by someone from a party that habitually and consistently punches downwards in the direction of the most vulnerable in society counts as a difference in political opinion, their lack of humanity transcends politics, these tory shits are morally destitute.
tories aren't bumping the likes of javid because they support the empowerment of BAME people, they do it because it serves their purposes in the short term, and right now that's deflecting any criticism that they might all be a shower of awful racist shits - in fact i'd suggest their involvement in the windrush shame says all you need to know about the tories' opinion on black folks.

Don’t get me wrong, I abhor his politics, but I think it’s a good thing to see diversity in the upper echelons of British politics. That’s all.
FWIW, I think May should be hounded out next, Rudd has been continuing the policies she devised and implemented and they are abhorrent.
-
• #52165
yeah sorry came on a bit strong there.
this has all been a transparently cynical exercise in protecting may from any deserved criticism. throw whoever stands to limit the most amount of damage under a bus in order to reset the news cycle then it's back to jabbing fingers in jeremy corbyn's face this time tomorrow.
-
• #52166
under the stewardship of the tory party, exists primarily to implement cruel policies aimed at non-white people.
It's hardly unique to the Tories.
-
• #52167
Indeed, someone else posted it earlier in this thread.
Rudd is falling on May's sword. -
• #52168
pretty sure no one but the tories have arranged for ford transits to prowl about minority areas with "fuck off home you dirty forrins" emblazoned on the side, but yeah. i'm sure you're right.
-
• #52169
Totally agree. That under May there have been some awful policies. Although it's important to keep in mind that she was trying her best to achieve Cameron's ridiculous election pledges - which I think it's widely acknowledged he was never concerned about achieving. So he can't be let off the hook either.
Re the Beeb - They've devoted quite a bit of time to a number of effected people"s stories over the past week.
It's not unreasonable in this instance to focus on the political careers.

I don't like Javid, either, but he is transparently more capable of maintaining political front than Rudd and is currently seen as a pair of safe hands by the Tories. How he will fare in the more senior role is anyone's guess, of course.
-
• #52171
Rudd is falling on May's sword.
Yes, but May is now more exposed, Javid or not. See Corbyn saying today that Rudd was May's 'human shield'.
-
• #52172
How he will fare
Fine until another fuck up is uncovered.
One thing that terrifies me, is the realization that Diane Abbot could be there in a few years.
-
• #52173
why? Diane Abbott has been pretty sure footed and consistent throughout this shit shower. I'd happily see her as home secretary.
i'd like to see David Lammy given a leg up as well. Man's been on fire of late.
-
• #52174
why do they all do this?
-
• #52175
Because He-Man did?

You have to admire the cheek of the "As a former Home Secretary myself" line in May's reply to Rudd.
