  • Was perfect timing for the election.

    .

  • So, minimum wage becomes the living wage, for those aged over 25, starting at £7.20 an hour from April 2016 and set to reach £9 by 2020.

    Also there is the raise in personal allowance to £12,500 by 2020, so that people working 30 hours a week on the minimum wage do not pay income tax.

    Which just goes to show how numerically illiterate they are.

    2020 living wage * 30 hours * weeks in a year = minimum total annual pay in 2020.
    £9*30*52=£14040

    minimum total annual pay in 2020 - personal allowance in 2020 = amount taxed for those on living wage.
    £14040 - £12500 = £1540

    That's £1540 on which those on the lowest pay will pay tax on, if they work that 30 hours per week.

    £1540 is a lot more than £0. If tax rates stay that same that's a tax bill of £308 per year, or £25.67 per month, or £5.92 per week.

  • Government accounting practices, innit.

    Have they go the same auditors as Tesco?

  • @dst I promise never again to use the word 'innit'.

  • I think it is more likely a disingenuous statement than an error.

  • To further the idiocy of the government''s treatment of Kids Company;

    http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/news/politics/article4490996.ece

    Key points for those without a subscription;

    ""An audit of Kids Company, the children's charity, ordered by Whitehall officials last year found significant cash-flow problems but did not raise concerns about how it was governed."
    "Officials at the Cabinet Office commissioned a confidential audit by PKF Littlejohn, the accounting firm, into how Kids Company was being run.... The report reveals that auditors has 'no recommendations to make in terms of improvements to the governance systems and risk assessment process'."
    "It said: 'The information provided in the management accounts is appropriate for an organisation like Kids Company.' Cash flow was highlighted as the 'key financial risk',""

    A charity doing expensive work with cash flow problems!?!?!?!? BURN HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!11!!!11!!!1

  • Another female charity CEO advocating a nurturing service for vulnerable/at risk young people that will be expensive. How long till Big Davey C and his cronies get the pitchforks and false allegations out again?

  • Does anyone have an a moderately well informed reaction to the Tory's limiting child benefit to the first two children?

    It's probably one of the only things I heard, and didn't violently disapprove of.

  • Limiting support funds won't stop people having more children than they can "afford" to have. There are immeasurable types of situations that lead to people deciding (or not deciding in some cases) to have "larger families". I don't know what the best way is to support those who do but I know the worst way is to say "fuck you, you're on your own." This will result in many young people being put at risk of neglect, abuse and death". Fuck it, let's just go the whole hog and criminalise it, why not. Hang 'em all.

    Car crash TV of the handful (relatively) of people who are gaming the system, doesn't help of course.

  • Disclaimer: I don't profess to be well informed. I just like to think I'm not a heartless cunt.

  • I worry for the Daily Mail journos, what are they going to replace stories like this with?

    #thinkoftherealvictims

  • moar lady di stuff hopefully

  • will the two children limit extend to royal parasites? they're two strikes down by last count. next one's on their fucking dime.
