I love how many articles have the headline "Subway adopts Sharia Law".

I don't believe that was the headline when it was Nandos, or any of the hundreds of other food places that serve halal meat.

^ I personally would assume that if you're buying a lamb or chicken doner from a guy with a halal sign out front then the meat will have been prepared in accordance with the rules.

There's an argument that the halal method of killing the chicken, lamb or whatever it is you're eating is fairly cruel compared to the alternative. I guess that'd be the only issue with regards to Nando's too, as they specialise in chicken. The meat's not going to change, just the method of killing it.

With regards to subway, they're actually removing ham and bacon from the branches in question and replacing it with a different meat entirely. I'd suggest the two situations are slightly different. Not really bothered either way as long as I'm aware in advance. I'll just make sure to order something other than turkey ham as it tastes like death, as b&d notes above.

Also because halal means stuff that is permissible in accordance with islamic (sharia) law. It's one small aspect of sharia law but the daily mail would prefer people to think that you'll get stoned to death for asking for a bacon butty in there.
