  • ah ok
    makes sense
all i've seen is a little grey dot
where's the head cam in HD

they usually have some other bloke jumping out at the same time taking video of the main man ? i didn't see him / her ?

  • some helmet cam footage popped up on youtube but was taken down by a copyright request from red bull before I got to see it. hrumph.

  • imagine ChainBreaker doing that jump

  • he wouldn't be able to centrifuge himself to death as there was little or no gravity to affect the blood in his veins

The whole point of a centrifuge is it simulates gravity with spinning. And anyway the real gravity at that altitude is almost as strong as it is on the ground. He wouldn't feel it at the start of his freefall, but as he got towards maximum speed he'd feel it's full effect.

He span because he was an aerodynamically unstable shape moving at high speed. If the speed estimates on the video are any good, he was out of control when he reached maximum speed and only recovered as he started to slow down.

anyone know what percentage the gravity is at 23 miles vs sea level ?

i guess 23 miles isn't really all that far ? it's an hours cycle ride

  • Back to badgers.

Comparison was raised earlier in conversation between culling here and ethical questions of Australian introduction of Myxomatosis in the 1950s and, when a resistance had reached 50 per cent effectiveness, the introduction by the Aus Government of rabbit Calicivirus as late as 1996. Interesting looking at secondary and tertiary affects of the virus when it was introduced to France and continental Europe - and later the UK (i.e. the decline of Iberian Lynx populations and near-extinction of the Spanish Imperial Eagle which relied on rabbit for their diet). Oddly, despite being introduced to the country illegal in the 1950s, the Government here have refused to sign legislation against deliberately spreading (myxie) further despite us clearly not having the 'pandemic' population that Australia admittedly suffered (600 million rabbits down to 100 million in two years). Having grown up on a farm in a region where it was prevalent, the effects of myxie on local ecology is no fun at all to watch.

  • Gravity falls off as 1/r^2 where r is your distance from the centre. The earth's radius is about 3960 miles. Adding 23 to that doesn't make much difference. The fraction is 3960^2/(3960+23)^2 = 0.988, i.e. about 1% weaker than on the surface.

  • That has absolutely nothing to do with badgers.

  • i guess 23 miles isn't really all that far ? it's an hours cycle ride

    Boast post.

  • That has absolutely nothing to do with badgers.

What about badgers at 123,000 feet?

  • What about 123,000 badgers' feet? that's only 30,750 badgers.

  • Statistically are they all likely to have four feet though?

That's a large sample size, and badgers are notorious piss-heads so I reckon a few would have lost a foot or two.

  • Seems we want to find out more about free fall at extreme hieghts.

Plus we want rid of some badgers...............

  • What if we put the badgers on a treadmill?

  • Or in a centrifuge?

  • tuesday night ride club >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

they love badgers and would almost certainly add something to this conversation

  • anyone know what percentage the gravity is at 23 miles vs sea level ?

    Boast post.

the only time i'd cover 23 miles in an hour is in a felix bumgardner style straight down with gravity time trial and i'd probably still not make it inside the hour ... sans parachute

  • I deleted it because it was to no in. I changed the reference to Soul II Soul, but then it wasn't funny.

  • Did I miss something re. Savile? When did it all become 'fact', rather than supposition?

I know it's The Sun, but come on...:

It's astonishing reading for something that is the most widely read circulated paper in the UK.

  • The Daily Sport had the necrophilia story on front page today too

  • Remarkable. I'm not an apologist for the man by any means, but I believe in a true and fair press. Slanting something is one thing, but that's just outrageous.

My (limited) understanding is that defamation can't be claimed because he's dead? Is there anything the family can legally do to prevent such 'he was a paedo, don't believe us? here's Kevin from Bognor, ignore the money we've paid him, he's telling the truth' stories?
