  • Ha! I like that. Reason #45 for unlimited goals: The fun of shuffles can ensue in a scenario that sees a large goal difference.

  • Both of these rules haven't been changed yet, as the new ruleset is not being used (as far as I know). Brighton used the LHBPA rules, and both those calls were made accordingly.

Ah, I guess I mistook a discussion about the rules for a change to the rules.

I think the out-of-bounds rule should definitely be changed, but I'm not sure where I stand on radball goals. I think they look cool, and fair play if you can pull them off and they originate as a shot.

  • You see Rich's awesome radball pass?

  • Good to see so many people calling their own shuffles though...

I scored a sweet shuffle slap in Germany. It was so blatant it wasn't called.

  • So what do people think of unlimited goals, after 2 tourneys?

Anyone not happy? Anyone deliriously happy?

Not wanting to repeat myself from Brighton thread...

I really liked timed games w/ unltd goals. 15 mins felt like a good game length. 10 mins is too short. 20 mins max with a 1 min break for end changes (take on water, opportunity for a game reset) could be the perfect time length for later games in double elim.

I do appreciate that there were some big score lines which weren't nice to be on the receiving end of. But unfortunately, when a team starts conceding goals, most then start pushing 3 up to get something out of the game, only then to be more exposed and get scored on again and again, making the score line escalate beyond saving.

For a weaker team, I still think more can be learnt from being on court for a longer set period and get thrashed vs a quick first to 5 beating. More court time the better - for both teams.

But most importantly its about approach. Too many times I saw teams drop their heads this weekend after going say 3 goals behind. This only made their situation worse. With unltd goals there's more of an opportunity to pull the game back round. Some teams did (exciting for spectators), others let the score line get the better of them.

Overall, when teams were closely matched, unltd goals made the game more dynamic. This was more noticeable when time went to 15 mins vs 8 mins. Teams had the chance to change tempo and apply different tactics based on the score line and time remaining. It made games more intense to play in as well as watch.

I'd like to see this format tested more.

First to 5 makes no sense to me - never has. Just think of all the goals you could have scored?

  • Should we think about changing rules for worlds or is that too early?

  • I notice it's only good players that worry about the massive scorelines, has anyone who's been on the receiving end actually said they'd have rather gone off after being 5-0'd?!

Yomoyo learnt a lot at Cambridge being beaten 17-0 and 15-0 by wild and rappers respectively, that we wouldn't have learnt leaving the pitch after being 5-0'd.

  • ^ This. We regularly get lashed by SB first thing of a morning - but having a full 10 minutes of it is so more satisfying than 4 or 5 minutes... irrespective of the scoreline.

  • Nice warm up too.

  • With an unlimited goal format, I think it's more important to think about the benefits of playing to a set time rather than the opportunity of scoring lots of goals.

It's having the time to change your game during a game which is the real excitement.

Lets not fear this opportunity to make our game more dynamic just because first to 5 softens the blow of a heavier defeat.

IMO there is nothing to learn for any team from a game first to 5.

  • The London Cup was unlimited goals.

BFFCOMM nailed all this years ago (no holding the sides, unlimited goals, shuffles allowed). People are still catching up...

it would of been more awesome if you didn't use the wrist shot thang..But yeah ahead to the curve!

  • unlimited is awesome for all the reasons listed above. First to five needs to curl up and die.

Do it clem! For the sake of bike polo

Also. Allow shuffles. Anything that crosses the line should be a goal. #srsly

  • Major issue with unlmtd goals:
    Make new scoreboards.

Yeah, true, you will need scoreboards with 0-9 and 2 digits. Is it really a major issue, though?

  • Also. Allow shuffles. Anything that crosses the line should be a goal.

I am starting to agree with this.

  • ^^ God knows how cricket's managed for over 100 years...

  • @ bill:
That's the major issue. or maybe convince people around is harder.

    @ MAx:
Shuffle: major issue here, people don't want to try it, even in pick up. We should all have played tousand games, and never we try that. We get trouble trying Wirst shots, i can't imagine people going against one of the main rule of this sport...

Honestly, we have tried shuffling in test tournament situations, and it really doesn't make as much difference as everyone who hasn't tried it seems to think. I'm amazed that people won't even try it. Why?

  • Dont know Too. You wait for your game so long o you wait for the 6th player so long, then you just want to play what you come for. Also maybe some who trained lot of mallets tricks and smarts shots can be afraid of loosing thi advantages... Don't know

  • Shuffle hysteria
    shuf·fle hys·te·ri·a
    Noun:
The belief that allowing shuffles would drastically change hardcourt bike polo.
A psychological disorder caused by having a shuffle called on you when the business end was used.
A situation in London bike polo where too many players have turned up for a throw-in (see: Mega shuffle).

  • ^^^ Genius.

  • ha.

  • Is that in goal hole?

  • I think for the worlds unlimited would be good, but shuffles is too far right now.

I imagine some people will have enough trouble dealing with the concept of unlimited goals.
