  • I always worry someone is going to fall on an upright, I reckon the crossbar seems safer.

  • And, as happened to us at the weekend, it is easier for an opponent to score from the 'wrong' side of the goal by leaning over and stretching a cord-based top bar to tap backwards into goal... :(

  • Solid crossbar is far too easy to put hands on, which, in my view isn't polo.

But that's against the rules, and very easy for the goal ref to call...

  • not having a cross bar, means no one can put the hands on it, making the life of the ref easier

  • The main reason for a solid crossbar is to avoid saggy nets (which are all too common in Europe in my experience).

  • Crossbars are great, goal refs have eyes and should help the head ref.

  • One of the recent/last week vids had a keeper hold the crossbar. not cool. I think the game played on.

    qed.

  • Refs not calling blatantly obvious shit thread >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • cross bars are kinda ok if they're low (top tube height roughly), but hugely problematic when they're high. I got a lot of shit for allegedly "resting" on one in Nantes, but unless you're in my body you cannot judge if I'm merely flush with it, or applying pressure. In the ESPI video Kremin literally grabs the crossbar at some point, as a reflex.

I vote for no crossbar or a low one.

  • I'm not a big fan of solid cross bars. It's another thing to get knocked and cause the goal to move. I am a goal refs nightmare because I'm continually knocking the post with my rear wheel and moving the goal out of line. Also it hurts more than a stretchy elastic crossbar if you fall on it.

  • Bring back infinity goals!

  • Bring back infinity goals!

Which is where this thread came in... :-)

;390693']1. How high is the goal? I've always played, and i thought it was the general consensus, that there is no height limit to the goal. However, Rob was denied a goal that was 'too high'. This sucks as Rob often scores spectacular goals that are higher than a bike.

  • Its official the rules thread is pointless.

We could do with an official pointless rules thread or a pointless official rules thread.

  • Pondering is alright.

  • I like duck ponds

  • Finished my quota for today i get to keep my forum name. [ACE]

  • but are you going to make it to souths to try your c.u.s.t.a.r.d. mallet?

So what, is it that much of an advantage anyway compared to a stomach, spine or even head injury
I don't think a minor foul like this should affect the safety of the game, especially in the goal area where falls can be more chaotic with people falling simultaneously, you can't always control where you're going to land and who's going to end up on top of you.
If it's such an issue, can't goal refs call this sort of thing anyway? Is a tapout the punishement for it? The goal ref should be looking for this since it may affect the validity of a goal.

  • Not really worried about the safety aspect BTW.
I just think goal keepers shouldn't use the goal as support in anyway. Dirty cheaters. AND if they do... 1, goal ref/head ref call them on it. "TAP OUT MOFO" 2, Fess up themselves as its cheating. Cheater.

  • The odd lean and touch of a cross bar is nothing, how many times do people lean against the fence, put there hands on it etc? A flexible cross bar that can't take any weight could work.

  • I believe both of those actions will be illegal under the new rules.

  • thats ridiculous, someone checks you into the boards / wall and your not allowed to touch them?

  • It's not covered, yet, but I can't see a reason for allowing your steering arm anywhere but your bar? We're talking hands, not leaning, they're treated separately (rightly so).

Grabbing the fence (whatever) is a silly thing to do in any respect... you've just lost control of your bike and now your hand/fingers can be easily be broken if someone checks you.

Leaning on something is fine in my opinion (goals included), for me it's less about cheating and more about keeping control of your bike (and safety to an extent). Most goals will (should) move if leaned on too much.
