  • Does anybody have a copy of the Euros rules in full somewhere? We'd like to use these for the Amsterdam qualis and I can't find them in the threads.

If possible please email to tomcbwilliams 'at' gmail 'dot' com.

Thanks a lot to anyone who can help!

Same rules as the league - http://www.londonbikepololeague.com/rules/

  • Merci Billiam.

    Morning brain over here.

  • Some interesting rules from ESPI 5

All games play to the full time limit. ie. games do not stop at 5

    Wrist shots are allowed (boo)
Hacking is not (yay!) - 1 or 2 min penalty
Ball jointing in offensive half results in a turnover

  • They're pretty much identical (Hoisted from) the Bench Minors.

  • yup, but i thought the bench minors was an experimental hockey/polo tournament, where as the ESPI is a big well established bike polo tournament.

  • Quite correct, however the ESPI's this year has been mostly organised by the same people as the minors.

I'd be interested to see if these rules stick for any larger tournaments outside of New York.

  • What's a wrist shot?

    1. Wrist shots that are scooped up off the ground with the mallet tip will count as valid shots as long as they never go above the goal’s crossbar, and also do not come from the player’s defensive half of the court. This means you can pass with an air ball anywhere at any height, but if you are attempting to score it has to be done from your offensive half of the court (no long bombs), and it can’t ever go above the cross bar on its journey to the net.
  • Is "Hooking" allowed?

  • A wrist shot (as far as I can tell) is simply a ball joint through the air, if done fast enough it will be labelled a "shot", pff.

  • Yeah, sounds like a shuffle to me, meh

  • Yep, basically a low height airplane.
That includes the 270 under the BB scoop that Alexis and the Richmond boys love so much.

  • Hooking is allowed.

  • Good, cos it's a huge part of the defensive game. No hacking is great though. Problem is judging it.

  • Ball joint = cup and trap the ball against the floor
Wrist Shot = using a flick of the wrist scoop the mallet under the ball lifting it off the floor

  • Anything that invovles a downward swipe onto the opponents mallet is a hack?

  • What about side ways?

  • Now PiQuE, don't make me come over there and slap you.

  • In my mind a ball joint is a cupping of the ball (controlling it's direction by close-proximity vs a strike of the ball). A wrist shot (mostly) comes across a ball joint in the air, the ball is never struck, merely pushed, so to me: ball joint on the ground = ball joint in the air = shuffle.

    I love rules.

  • Hence my comments a few weeks ago that the UK (and europe in general) is going to be very resistent in accepting wrist shots.

The US and Canada already have a set precedent from Hockey. We don't (Or just have a lot fewer ex-hockey players)

I personally don't mind which way it goes and can see both sides of the argument.
