  • agreed. LHBPARULES>EUROSRULES

  • The Euros Rules are more closely aligned with the NAH rule wording (and other country norms) I believe... Clement and Alej have seen the latest LHBPA rules, I think they thought we'd gone a bit rogue with the re-wording though.

The sentiment is the same, the details/wording isn't, it shouldn't matter given the standard of reffing we currently have/can expect?

It's always going to be easier to hit the ball with your mallet, than with your wheel - it's very hard to make any kind of front wheel contact at speed, other than to block the ball, so I am happy with the rules as they are, as I think it unlikely that 'rad-ball' shots are going to become a big part of the game.

Makes sense. Wheel shots are allowed, but be warned the ref may disallow them if they didn't see your last touch. (I disallowed a Marc goal on Saturday that it appears I shouldn't have looking over the Euros rules, oops.)

  • This is incorrect. The game restarts when:

the scored on team has the ball under control
all 3 members of the scoring team are in their own half (although they must retreat without delay or interfering with the ball or members of opposing team)
the ball or a member of the possessing team has crossed halfway

Or when everyone spends too long faffing about and the ref calls "Game on!"?

Starting to be a habit with you concerning D.R.

    Ooops

  • It's Marc's face, I hate his face.

    Also correct.

  • read the letter of the law.
    but read the right letter.

  • Scooping/BJ ing the ball into goal is not allowed, so scooping the ball into your wheel then into goal should also not be allowed.

Hitting the ball into your wheel then into goal should be allowed.

I know this makes it hard for ref's to enforce, but just saying.

Anything that does not originate as a shot is not counted as goal, unless it strikes opponent mallet, in which case, I would probably say the ball was live again, and call it a goal.

So to imagine a plausible situation, Player 1 Team A passes out of a ball-joint in the direction of Player 2 Team A, who is lurking just outside the D, but misjudges the pass, and it goes too close to Player 1 Team B, who is guarding the goal.

Player 1 Team B misjudges it also, and instead of shuffling the ball back out to Player 2 Team B, it spins up off, over & behind his mallet, through his bottom bracket into the goal. I would call this a goal.

This might not be such a bad idea - it could give potential refs a bit of theoretical practice. Maybe experienced refs/players could set posers, or post videos of real-game incidents and novice or wannabe refs could put forward their opinions.

  • Send them off

  • You forgot to punch Gary Neville in the face.

  • no offense but watching video os what happened and saying "i would do this" Is about as useful as doing it for football and they have about 80 years more experience and organisation on there side.

Football refs review their decision-making, and that of fellow refs, by doing exactly that.

  • and football never makes any errors. ever.

  • and football never makes any errors. ever.

Yeah, of course refs do. All refs do. But reviewing decisions & incidents on video can help refs to be more consistent.

  • YouTube - Zusammenprall Schumacher - Battiston

The ref gave a goal kick, having not seen that the West German goal-keeper, Schumacher, had committed a terrible, life-threatening assault on the French player Battiston. Several days later, having seen the video, the ref said that he should have sent Schumacher off, and given a penalty to the French.

The French lost the game on penalties. 1982 World Cup semi-final.

As you can see from the video, Battiston was knocked completely unconscious and lost some teeth. Schumacher never fully apologised for the foul.

(Anyone know what what "Zusammenprall" means?)

  • Direct translation:

    Zusammen = together
    Prall = impact

    Equivalent English:

    A "coming-together"

    Most appropriate English:

    "Collision".

    Ja?

  • Right, so we Cambridge folk have been trying to bring our game in line with the league rules so no one gets caught out at Brighton and any other tournaments that adopt the league rules (national series?) The one sticking point is where it is and isn't legal to shoot from after the game is reset once a goal has been scored etc. Some people are being stubborn and don't like change and complain about rules changing every day blah blah blah – but some people are just genuinely unclear on what is and isn't allowed. Can someone clear this up in black and white?

I know there are some posts covering it up there ^^^ but people are talking up there about rules changing, or the possibility of things changing. We just want to know what is permitted as of right now and what the rules will be when we get to Brighton and if they will remain consistant for future 2011 tournaments adopting the league rules.

Lastly, as there is currently no UK body of reps from around the country deciding on these rules as they are currently LHBPA league rules and since we're not from London we are not involved in what goes into them. As far as transparency, who would be the best person to direct questions to in the future rather than just posting them on here and if there is anyone that objects or (for the sake of democracy) challenges them, who is it best to raise that with and what happens then?

That was supposed to be quite a short post, sorry it got so wordy.

  • LHBPA rules are here:
    http://www.lhbpa.org/resources/LHBPA_Bike_Polo_Rules.pdf

We welcome any input from any scene, there will be no changes in this ruleset from Brighton onwards (7th May) - for the UK Series season.

The rules originally came from a set of rules that myself, Clement and Alejandro pulled together from the latest NAH ruleset for the Euros... although they've been edited a fair bit since then (for clarity and to add points that the Euros set was missing).

6.6.1 – You may not score a goal from your half of the court if the game is still stopped (no "cheap shots").

  • Ok I think the reason people are confused is because there is no one at throw ins or practice to blow a whistle at the point of the reset or even enforce it. There are times when the scored upon team are already riding up the court so that the second the other team are crossing back into their half they are ready to take a shot. On paper the defending team were in their half and the attackers were both over the line but there was maybe only a split second in it.

It's still pretty grey but I'm trying to make sense of it myself before I go back and try to explain it to others. There are a lot of people that don't read the forum and the first time they hear these rules is word of mouth, I'm just trying to make sure I'm not repeating the wrong message.

  • You can chase the other team back into their half if you want (crossing over directly after them), often it's difficult if you have to fish the ball out of the net first, etc.

As long as one of your team mates (or yourself) has crossed the halfway line (restarting the game timer), you can shoot, just not before (a "cheap shot").
