  • Yes... I keep meaning to do the second part... I got 2 wheels to build tomorrow. So maybe then.

  • things I have learnt at trixie dix, since turning up not being able to even trackstand

    1) Trackstands are easier if you turn the front wheel more than you think you should, for me it works best about 75 degrees, also sitting down makes it easier, you get more control even though it feels harder at first

    2) Skids are easier with a spinny gear (I run 48 x 20) the most important thing with skids is to get forward and literally hump the handlebars. You'll find one foot is stronger than the other, so its easier to skid one way

    3) one foot over the bar skids, the way to get into this is to take one hand off, whilst still sitting down, lift your foot up onto the bars, then when your foot on the pedal is at the top of the rotation, step forward with the other foot. This way it's all one movement, to get your foot over the bars, and push around to lock into the skid. Once again, it's all about getting forward, hump that stem

    4) cycling through the frame. easy peasy, simply lock your leg whilst peddling at the bottom of the roatation, it will then lift your body up and you can step over the top tube, then just slip it back through and pedal like a king.

  • Trackstands confuse me. I have no problem trackstanding no-handed, sitting straight up on my saddle. I find that pretty easy, almost a minute. However, lasting more than about 5 seconds with hands on or near the bars is fucking impossible for me? Yeah they're drops and quite low, but still!

    Any advice?

    practise coming up off your seat to trackstand. that way you can adjust your body weight better. then practise sitting down. and i'm assuming that you're not on the ends of your drops, right?

    another thing I found easier is that when the wheel is turned 75ish degree on says your left, you should try and position the pedal closest to the front wheel on your left - huge amount of control immediately open up after you do that.

    come down to trixie dix, seeing other doing trackstand speak a thousand word compared to reading description on how to do it.

    Also, at Teddy. Nah I'm on the tops of my bars. I'll try standing up tomorrow, but it's always felt in some way unnatural.
    Ungodly trackstands sounds like something Robin would say in the classic Batman tv show.

    Not folding, kids/shopper type bike (18" wheels) - converted to fixed - I epoxied a dura-ace cog onto the rear + BB lock ring - suicide hub style

  • haha it looks like a barrel of laughs, i always wanted to get one of those style frame but at 6' 4" i'd need a seat post that is about a meter long

  • 6' 4" is fine, get something like a secondhand Raleigh 20 - same basic geometry/shape but larger with 20" wheels. Then get yourself a 410/450mm seatpost - this will easily be big enough.
