  • We're here on the sa vs Scotland side of the walkie if anyone's interested. Stevecom? Clever pun?

  • I was in Richmond Rugby club watching the england game after watching Richmond vs Loughborogh Students. Which was the game of the weekend for me ahead of that shitehouse England game and the Quins v Bath on friday

    Also... purple kit>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/international/england/9687790/England-v-Australia-all-you-need-to-know-about-the-RFUs-91-purple-kit.html

  • that purple kit was arse!

  • The purple kit makes me angry.. Nothing more than sell more replica marketing bullshit.

England play in white unless it clashes with the other team.

Pulling on the white jersey is all about pride.

  • Wales are going to get absolutely stuffed by the All Blacks..

  • i have to agree...

Its like Wales wearing a uniform close to that of the ABs...

    Not cool

  • Despite the loss did Scotland acquit themselves alright on the weekend? Sorry to have missed it.

  • I don't think Scotland played as well as I thought they could've against the boks.

Asleep in the first half (we gave one of the biggest, slowest international hookers a fucking interception try), could have won it in the second but were no where near clinical enough.

At least that is how I see it CB may disagree.

The purple strips are awesome! Nothing like seeing 21 English international rugby players look like complete and utter tools. I think the RFU should make it the first choice of strip. Think of all the extra shirts you'd sell.

  • My biggest surprise was that the Scots didnt even attempt to stop the boks first rolling maul (i may have missed something as it got Scotland a penalty i think) and it was seriously lame on the second one. Its a strength for SA and definitely not something to miss out on.

It looked like the Scots had a second wind but it also looked like SA had a really good defense game.

That first disallowed try was a deliberate scottish tactic, by never contesting the maul it meant that it was never formed, according to the rules both teams are required to form mauls. Without the maul formed the SA ball carrier had men between the defenders and himself, an obstruction. This is why the try was disallowed and Scotland were awarded a penalty. The second time it happened, Scotland did the exact same thing which is frustrating as the ref awarded a try, no consistency, not completely his fault as we were exploiting a fairly obscure part of the rules but he did get it right the first time. It is a very clever way to defend a maul I wouldn't be surprised to see it more often in the future, especially as you are not (technically) allowed to collapsed the fuckers now.

In the second half SA did defend very well but we never gave the ball to our danger men where they could use it. Visser who is a country mile our best offensive runner never saw the ball.

  • I was surprised not to see him - he's fucking awesome. Silly as he could have either caused damage or acted as a distraction.

Ah! I thought it was that but didn't think it was so obvious. Nice loop hole but I think it failed the second time because there was a little contesting but only made for a massive cock up.

  • Truck and trailer.. didn't the saffas use that defence to beat Argentina when they were kicking asses with their rolling maul in the world cup?

  • i may have missed that game...

What games can i watch on BBC iplayer? is it only the ones from this weekend?

  • Yes, but not the England one as it was on Sky but there may "highlights".

Very suspect reffing with truck and trailer I'd say..

damn, thats the one i wanted to watch...

Don't quite know what you mean by that, but all teh rulez regarding mauls are laid out in section 17 of the irb laws. The fact of the matter is that, in the professional game, most mauls formed from line outs are borderline illegal; the opposition rarely get the chance to make contact with the ball carrier before the ball is shipped to the back.

  • It's just the truck and trailer is so open to ref's interpretation. One SA maul was pinged and another, from what I could see exactly the same, wasn't and they scored..

  • You mean this last game against Scotland? To me it looked like they didnt contest the first one (thereby getting the penalty) but they half heartidly and presumabley mistakenly did in the second (allowing for the try).

  • yep..

  • Whats on for this weekend?

I am tempted to book a table again as it was a lot more civilized and a lot more fun having somewhere to sit and watch the game.

One of the most frustrating parts of watching and playing rugby I find is how open it is to the Ref's interpretation of the laws. However even if the second try was disallowed we would have lost.
