    If the chain you lost the pin out of is going free you could let the Hackney Bikeworkshop have it http://www.lfgss.com/thread77728.html it is on tomorrow you could fit the chain there too. Some of our trainees have very little money so it is good to get them mobile by making their bikes work properly.

  • If you still have spare links, couldn't you just use those? Seems a bit crazy to go buy a new chain.

  • As a philosophical test you could imagine you have no tools and use a rock as a hammer. Had to do this once in the countryside when stupidly cycling without tools. There is nothing like the winter sun going down to focus one's concentration.. That was 20 years ago and now I am weak minded and would probably buy a new chain

  • You mentioned that you removed some links, so I assume you've got some spare length. Could you not simply remove the pin-free link and replace it with one of the links you removed earlier?
