Trix frame geo

  • Did a few searches and couldn't find anything...

So, i have a touring frame, and you could fit a bus through the clearance between the seat tube and the back wheel, so i'm after a good trix worthy geo, something pretty tracky but designed for trix. I spoke to a mate last night at trix and he reckoned a BMW frame would be best. The main thing i'm after is an easy riding frame that's strong enough to last a good while, so no condor carbon track frames.

If strength isn't the best frames strength (ie, it's a really light weight track frame with yeti thin tubing) i'd like to know the geo, as i know a german framebuilder who will do me one for 70 quid...

So, opinions and thoughts on best geo. Probably equiv to a 55cm frame if possible, maybe a bit smaller.

  • 'trix' does not really require any specific geometry. Doing tricks on modern fixed wheel bikes on the street is something which is yet to be fully honed & equipment refined.Trick specific fixed bikes of course have been around for a century, look up the german artistic cycling scene for that.

Depends if you want to ride your bike like a unicycling clown or attempt street BMX style stuff.

The BMW gangsta was designed with tricks & 'hardcore urban riding' in mind, so you could copy it.

But id personally reccomend getting a lugless frame on the small size for you, get the seat as far back as possible for wheelie 'pop' & handlebar clearance. Change the forks to allow barspins. Put on short stem, and fairly wide riser bars.

Also low gearing, and fattish tyres will help.

  • wait you know a builder who'll make a frame for 70?

  • Yea wtf, frame built for 70
    name and number please?

  • Marinobikes.

Mainly does trials frames, strongly built (heavy, steel), but if i went down his route, i would ask him to get some thinner steel.

Hmm, so theres no ideal trick geo? In trials, (for 26" wheel bikes) 385 chainstays, 71.5 head angle, 1080 wheelbase and +50 bb is regarded as perfect geo, think it's that anyway. So there's no fixed equivilent?

I'm looking at BMXy stuff, and it to be barspinnable with a 700c... I'm thinking maybe Charge plug? Problem is, can't get it frame only...

OOOOO, if 3 people plus me are interested in getting frames, it makes it a LOT cheaper to post from germany, works out at 20 quid each? And everyone lives in Londonish so it's not gonna cost to post it from whoever receives it? IDEA!

  • Umm how bout FUCK YEAH

  • I'll put an order in now.
    55 cm ish.
could he make it with the capability of taking seriously huge tyres?
that'd make me very very excited.

  • Get me some geos and lengths and i'll get in contact with him again... Just 1 more person needed i think. Don't think 3 by themselves makes it more worth it. I'd be doing this after the end of this month as i'm skint until payday, but it takes 4ish weeks in total after giving him geos n stuff, so that's fine... Might make a topic in classifieds.

Eyebrows, how big are we talking?

Need some geos and lengths and i'll get an email sent to him. Think 3 will be enough to make it cheap with any luck... And colour, as he'll do any solid colour (i think)

  • I can probably shift another.

  • Huh? 70 quid labour costs or 70 quid and you get a frame?

  • Apparently so.

  • 70 quid + postage.

    Hello thanks for write.
i'm can make any frames, any model, any color, ay geometry.
but is my firts order un Road frame.
built your frame cost is 120usd+shipping.
normal shipping cost 65usd. delay 4 or 6 weeks.
express shipping cost 105usd. delay 01 week.
but i send more frames is more cheap.
for example send 4 frames in normal shipping is 150usd. = 37.5usd for frame.
i have other order from England. and make more frames fos shipping to Uk.

Marino any questions send me e-mail please.
    sorry for my english.

Sorry, 79 quid according to google, plus postage obv.

  • charge plug freestyler! barspins with 700c

  • Um maybe I needed to be clearer, I give this german geezer 70 squids (+p&p)and he'll give me a frame that I designed?

  • Yeah.

Just seen, he's from peru, but yeah, still stands. Any frame, any geo etc, 120 usd plus postage which gets cheaper the more we buy.

  • That clearance looks a bit toooo tight, maybe slacken it off a tiny bit just incase the accuracy isn't 100000%, but i've heard really good things of his frames.

And i'm thinking i'll have one of them too, looks like an awesome frame design. I take it that's a very bmx tricksy orientated geo you've thought up?

And i don't think he'll do the forks...

First pic, did you make the ST 1cm bigger?

  • I don't reckon it's to scale. I think 378mm would give you slightly more clearance than shown in the picture (it looks like the tyre is touchong the seattube?!)

and you're talking about the guy that does the trials frames, arent you fatty? His welding is shocking and his frame jig is ghetto, the frames dont come out very square or straight from what I've heard. He uses cheap mild steel too. Probably not worth it in my opinion.

  • Okay, makes a bit more sense for 70 squid.

  • Not fucking bad at all man, I think I know what January's student loan is going on, trick fixed here I come. I'm liking Gizmond's geo too but yeah the rear wheel clearance does look a little tight unless the pic isn't 100% accurate.

  • Sam!

Na, i've heard gooood things about them. His quality has gotten a lot better recently. Loads of people on OTN have got them and they're all happy.

    Everyone ignore Sam, he's a fag. :P

  • Ah, didn't read Sam Doman's post, hmmmm still for a trick bike that's gonna get chucked about???

  • When will these orders have to take place,
atm my money is flying in other directions.

But my Xmas EMA bonus will be flying in soon.

  • Well it's gonna be end of this month before i can pay, dunno if he makes in advance though...

I think a batch of the same will be quickest and easiest... Jizzmond, can you make the rear end have +7mm clearance pl0z?

  • Marinobikes.

Trials has been aroung for a looong time. And everyone has the same goal of hopping over boulders and riding over street furniture.

The tech spec/geometry of a fixed wheel bicycle would heavily depend on how fast & comfortable you want to ride and what kind of tricks you want to do. But for what your describing, yeah just copy the BMW gangsta.

    Cheers Glen :p

If they've got better than that's cool, but he's still only using mild steel from what I understand, and his welding still leaves something to be desired. I'll try and find the pictures of his latest frames...

    edit:
His welding is definitely a bit better, but not great:

Just get a funny feeling about them, £70 is quite a lot for something mig welded in peru out of mild steel:
