  • You trying to wind me up mate?

That's a photo of me as a child. Avatar! Bah.

    Cute baby, what went wrong?

;) winky face disclaimer to show that the author meant this as a pun, and no actual offence, implied or otherwise, was intended to the recipient or any other person/s reading this post

  • Archi Pelago, I'm getting Object to put you on his list.

    :))

  • GA2G, I'm not sure it works that way.

You could start a list of your own though, I can hardly stop you considering I satired the style of your lists to create mine.

  • According to GA2G's list
    Ti = 154g & 110.00GBP
    Steel = 197g & 64.95GBP

    (197-154)/(110-64.95)=0.95449500554938956714761376248613g/GBP

    or in my case
    Campag AC-H = 300g-ish for around £12.
Gets pulled out and the cups greased every 6 months or so to stop it creaking.

Saving me between £50 and £100 to spend on things that matter.
Besides, saving grams on the BB is pointless, lighter rims, tyres and hubs will make more difference.

  • @Object

I thought the least you could do was go along with the big, bad bully gag.

You are the enemy of fun. And I was really making people frightened of you!

    :((

  • I'd hope that no one's ever been frightened of me. The closest I get to scary is loud, lewd or slap happy.

  • You could fit the Royce and do about 25,000 miles without having to think about it.

  • To be honest I'd rather be on Objects list than some others going around at the moment.

It's been a long time since I've had a good slap. The missus is losing her skills in that dept. ;)

  • You could always try this, but I'll try to beat you to it :

  • I have a Phil BB, worse purchase I ever made. Firstly, you need a special tool to fit it. Now, this should have been a warning to me straight away - I hate proprietary shit. Not only have I just x amount on a shiny BB but now i've got to spend another £20 for the tool Secondly, the machining tolerances are quite precise, meaning if it's not fitted EXACTLY right, it bends and the bearings start to bind. So I had to send it to the U.S to get it fixed, apparently it's quite a common problem. Thirdly, mine came loose every 3 months or so, even with threadlock. I have now put a BB lockring on the left thread, hopefully it should hold.

It costs a lot more than a cheap Shimano, and yes it probably lasts longer + looks nicer but so what? No one is going to see it.

  • Aren't the Ti ones more likely to creak than the steel ones?

  • dunno, mines steel + it doesn't creak.

  • Heard a few stories about people buying Ti spindle pedals only to have them creak all the time - think it might be similar with BBs.

  • anyone running the phil BB with sugino 75 cranks?

yes, and its a gorgeous marriage

  • i doubt a bb spindle would break tbh

  • They are very light and reliable, but costs a fortune! I think the Phil BB is slightly lighter than the Royce ones...

Would say to get a Campag Record one instead which would be a lot cheaper, but, if you have the money, go for it!! :)

  • holy shit I still have your tool!! i am bringing it round tomorrow, sorry man!

  • Oh my gosh after one year! At least you didn't lose it :(

    Merci!

What about the Sugino 75 bb? Does anyone know if they are any good? I've got phil hubs, gonna get 75's. Would a 75 BB make for a straight chainline?

  • Sell the BMX and get the steel Phil Wood BB and perhaps you will have spare money to buy something else shiny.

  • The Sugino BB would be more suitable for a track (racing) bike - for road use a sealed BB would be a better choice!

    Mental.

cheers dude. knew that this was the case, but forgot that 75's weren't sealed. i will do more research before silly questions in future!

  • so what happened? was it ok? i'm thinking of getting a steel one.
