  • The anchor has a projector setup as well as a small room they let people use for events. But it is a busy old man pub.

Im sure if we had words with the rainbow theyd allow us to use one of their spaces as they are totally empty in the day.

If people are up for a totally different scene (probably a rough one) the island bar allows people to book their upstairs room for free.

  • -playing tig (tag) on bikes (can think up the rules later)

Really really glad that someone mentioned this. Was talking to a bloke a while ago who said he used to love playing this. Idea is that you stay inside a designated area(ie 1 square mile of digbeth, or whatever) and whoever's it has some sort of identification (specific hat, etc). Also, could do a version where if you get tagged, you and the person who tagged you are then it, until you have one person who is trying to escape loads of people. This would be awesome.

As for films, we could do showings of mash, macraframa etc.

  • ^You have a copy of Macaframa?

  • O.K.
    How about this...
Lets all get a location sorted. We meet up on ANY evening this coming week, and all get an idea of who can make what - and who wants to meet when? This could be weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

Don't think of this as a session to go riding, but merely a face to face introduction meet, with the idea to all plan something for a "Regular Date". Some of you know each other well, whilst others have recently "come out" ha ha.
This could be a one off evening/social to plan things out, in a way that used to be the norm, before the frickin' internet took away our identities.....(i'm not bitter)

Lets do something positive for Birmingham Fixed Gear...
High fives all round - big "hands-in" effect

  • Messenjah and DFP, what are your thoughts on a social meet? Every other week, once a month, or something else?

No point asking me - I'm usually too tired to come to these things anyway! Too many late nights. Dan at OYB wanted to organizize some long Sunday rides out towards Earlswood... BTW the forum won't let him post in this group!

  • ^ No worries. It'd be good to catch you in person sometime.
    What's Dan's forum name?

  • No, I've got a pirate copy of mash. Someone who lives near the centre just have everyone round and we can have a proper meeting to discuss BHX FG?

  • O.K.

I can't meet up any night next week (damn commitments), i guess you know what i think but just incase, monthly on a friday night is what i suggest and best for me but thats just me. let me know how this goes.

  • Done deal mastershredder.

  • woo! i made it on here! i would be up for watching some cool fixed gear types on a large screen in a small pub. i also reckon we should plan (far) ahead into the summer for some decent-length rides on a sunday. c50 miles, make a day of it? brum to oxford? is that 50 miles? i don't know.

Great warm up game off the bike with the kids, I agree it'd work great on the bike with skilled riders too. There was a version of this in Timesplitters too - called "virus".

This thread looks promising, sometimes wish I wasn't a poor country cousin over here in the sticks of Cov. Might try and head over for the odd ride/beer once this gets going. I agree with the decent beer comments too.

Appx, yes. If you get creative you could easily take in Fish Hill (nr Evesham) on the way.... >:]

  • yeah, i reckon there are quite a few around here who can't make a weekly date, which is why they haven't worked out too well. a few banker big rides would be good to aim for. if something regular is going to work, i think it may have to be actually regular. every week. ride if the weather is nice, pub if it's not.

  • I'm struggling here guys.
The next Critical Mass is on the 6th Feb right? (I have no idea if this is still running)
How many people will be there? Just start a list, and add as you go on...
Would somebody let me know who initially set this up/sets this up each month cos i really want to help.

    However:
PM me your numbers if you're interested in a weekly social - unrelated to alleycats, tag, trackstands, quick stops etc., but merely a group of Fixed Gear junkies that want to catch up on local shit, Lance's comeback, Victoria Pendleton's haunting eyes (sorry, she melts me) etc etc. This would be a no commitment meet. You'd get a text off me to say "this is where we'll be, bring your wallet".
Since I've been in Birmingham I've not been to any events, so forgive me if i seem to have taken a dominant stand on this. Love ya'll!

  • There is a mailing list on rise-up if you want to get in touch with the organisers brumcriticalmass@lists.riseup.net (you can go on the rise-up website and subscribe on there).

I am planning to go on the 6th

  • Nice one Helda

  • I am planning to go on the 6th

    +1

  • also. just to clarify, when I say organisers - I mean everyone who goes/ is on the mailing list, as there isn't really one organiser, it's just an autonomous group of cyclists meeting up (which is always useful to tell police when they want to find the ring leader - they find it difficult to understand non hierarchical groups!)

  • I getcha...
Would i be right in thinking you are Leamington based....?
I lived there when i moved up from London.

  • No, I live in Selly Oak, but was in London last year (where the fixie fetish developed)

  • I should be on the mass.

    Sweet... You at Uni?

  • Yeah, howd'ya guess? :-)

  • Just a hunch! I guess it was an obvious question. I apologise.
    What you studying?
I moved to the area for that Uni. Studied Physio.
    What you ridin?

  • Ah cool, it's a nice campus isn't it? Are you working in a hospital in Brum?
My bike is a lemonde fillmore, but got the fame painted pink! Although starting to regret the colour choice now cos it shows up the dirt quite a lot, despite my frantic (albeit sporadic) cleaning. At least it's a bit more visible at night.
