hope the car's ok...

on no, we do have that over here!
but usually in MTB circles, as you may imagine.
especially since those MTB tend to cost over a grand.

hope the tarmac is ok.

especially since those MTB tend to cost over a grand.
and the crashes result in death very rarely compared to road

glad nobody got hurt and there's only the damage to the car and bike (if there is any?) to pay for
-

I guess you don't have that over here? In Oz, as soon as you hear about a rider crashing (and they're ok) you ask about the bike. It's the done thing. A bit of a laugh to make the injured rider smile or whatever.
Yep, each time Brett has done his best Lee Majors impression, the first thing I asked about was the bike.
A bit like stacking it on your own and instantly looking around to see if anyone noticed.
Anyway, glad to hear all is well with her.

Glad Amy is ok.
One point WiganWill makes is that passing an RLJ is not necessarily dangerous riding. Have not been around for any previous chat on this no doubt it's been debated to death though so i'll keep it short.
Anytime a rider passes a Red Light they're introducing new, and arguably unnecessary, danger to their journey. Is this dangerous riding? Some will say yes other no. I say it is, but i then use this to help me think things through on those occasions i pass on Red.
This is not to say don't pass Red, just if a rider does decide to then they should do so with more focus on the situation and the dangers faced.

Hey its Amy - thanks so much for all your concern! My right hand is broken and in a plaster so won't be riding (or sewing) for a while :( and my cycle is pretty mangled too. A taxi driver did a U-turn right in front of me and there was nothing I could do. He was really shaken up too though and admitted to the police that it was all his fault so could've been a lot worse!

Ah.. well bad news on the bust up but good to have you posting.

bloody taxi drivers. good news on vogue, though.

Glad to hear you injuries aren't too severe Amy. I hope you recover quickly. In the meantime you could use the spare time to research the new bike you're going to buy when the insurance money pays out. :-)

great to hear you're ok, amy.
ok, now that we know that amy is ok and can all breathe easily again...
Now that we know Amy is ok I will explain. You use the term RLJ so you must be familiar with the debate. One point, often made, is that jumping red lights is not necessarily the same as dangerous riding.
often true, but it is illegal and does increase the risk. in this case it sounds like the original information was incomplete and the driver was at least partially at fault, but if a rider is at fault then a rider is at fault. sorry if that sounds insensitive to you, but it's true. this accident has happened. if other riders see this and realise the consequences of poor decisions on a bike, and it helps prevents a future accident, then i'm willing to look a bit insensitive to help reinforce the message to be safe.
Had Amy been seriously injured, or worse, your contribution would have been quite offensively ill judged. It just sounded tactless, insensitive and out of place.
Also I don't really think any of us need 'reminding' to ride safe.
When accidents are reported on here I think it's best not to enter in to any speculation or discussion of general safety issues until the facts are known.
Iam sure you meant well and are sincere in your concern but I stand by what I said.there are many many inexperienced riders reading this forum who i think do need reminding. i see so many cyclists do ridiculously dangerous things every day, the more people read about the consequences of making poor decisions on the road, the better IMHO.
i'm equally sure that you are sincere in your views as i am, we just seem to have a slight difference of opinion over this. you cherrypicked part of my original post to dissect, but i repeatedly and sincerely expressed my heartfelt concern for amy's health. i think it's unfair to accuse me of gross insensitivity over something you just disagree with.
maybe it's my antipodean nature to call a spade a spade, but i have strong reasons for my beliefs, it's not just that i'm an unthinking cunt.anyway, nobody was seriously hurt this time, and that's great news. sorry to get all bikeradar.

Amy, hope your ok! I'm in a cast for my hand and still riding! Can't wait to get it off though! Get well soon.

Hello Amy, sorry to hear about your injuries but glad it's nothing more serious. U-turning taxi drivers can be a real pain--a friend of mine was hit by one some years ago while he was working as a messenger. I'm glad the driver owned up. My friend was so under shock he didn't even notice he was injured at first (he had caught his ear on the aerial and nearly had it sliced off, plus other bumps and bruises--the scar on the ear is still visible), but he said the policeman who attended the scene was very good and had a right go at the cabbie for making this manoeuvre. Get better soon!

Heal up soon, Amy... Sounds nasty...

I've moved the thread to the private forum.
This is because Amy has been in touch and said that she didn't RLJ, that the driver has admitted responsibility, and that the police have taken statements. As such, uninformed speculation on this thread is irresponsible as it implies circumstances other than which happened, and that such speculation potentially risks any compensation she may receive.
She actually asked for deletion, but I'm against just nuking things as it would raise more questions and result in further speculation. So with that in mind, this is basically notice that this thread will likely be deleted, and that if/when that happens it would be appreciated that no further speculation take place about this incident.
Cheers
David

So it sounds like the thread was given the red light by Amy, and David jumped to it. I don't want to get all ForumRadar about things, but I think it's worth reminding people of the dangers of jumping on red lights given to threads, even if witnesses have stated that there were U-turns involved.
I'm just calling a hoe a ho here, rather than giving some kind of unwarranted cuntitude.

Shame on you BMMF
Yeah, but she's ok. Geez man, if anyone's gonna be too blunt it's gonna be one of the immigrants.
