Oh yeah you're right, Big Dog is the suspension frame, Bootzipper is rigid, both available in 29" and 650b.
-
• #728
Yeah although I fancy a rigid fork for light cargo carrying duties around town when not being used to get muddy with a bounce fork

I bought one. Size L, orange. Will have to accumulate parts over time

Still waiting on mine.

Apparently Planet X is soon to be employee owned. Seems good.
-
• #735
Better than being owned by Mike Ashley, I guess.

• #736
Only good for employees whose age is part of the Fibonacci sequence I guess.

Another decent looking On-One; Whippet carbon 29er.

‘Gravel’ version of the Bootzipper.
Planet X told me it doesn't have mudguard eyelets, only rack eyelets. I wasn't quite sure what they meant by this when they first said it, but I can see there is no seatstay bridge and no hole in the crown of the fork. So not really commuter material, if anyone was considering it.

Interesting build. Nice to see the triple fork mounts (I don't think any PX bike before had more than a front rack mount), just wondering why did they place them so high up.
-
• #740
Not really a deal killer as the rack mount can be used to hold a mudguard.
-
• #741
How exactly would you do this? The back seems straightforward: aftermarket seat stay bridge, then share the lower eyelets with a rack. But that fork seems more fiddly, short of drilling the crown yourself.

Rack stay, bend both side, attach to top fork mount, then attach mudguard to middle of rack stay.

Star flanged nut up the bottom of the steerer being another option.
Also, fork is steel, crack out the drill.
-
• #744
Tapered fork, wonder if it’s not too big for star nuts.

Nice solutions, thanks. Would still probably want P-clips at the bottom of the fork. The lugs look a bit high for a full mudguard, otherwise.
Seems like a bit of a missed opportunity on Planet X's part. I know they aren't marketing it as a commuter, but still...

P-clips on right, disc mount act as mudguard stay on left.

Reach measurement recorded in metres, not mm

Awesome.
Seriously thinking of getting the 650b version (29ers is very expensive despite having 15mm boost).

Ok so I think I'm going to go for the new On-One Free Ranger in Force flavour.
Is there anything I should think twice about before buying? I'm sure there can't be many competitors at this price.
Bootzipper comes in 27.5 or 29, with different axles, both £225 inc. rigid fork
Big Dog is just 29", £175, no fork, takes ~130mm suspension
There is a picture of the Big Dog now also:
