I assumed 35.

At 30, you've got no excuse not to ride the real nationals.
-
• #256
unless you want a greater chance of winning?....actually some of those masters are pretty good ( especially the 30 year olds!)
-
• #257
I'm 30 in July.
I suspect I'll win all the Masters events remaining for this season.
-
• #258
There's always a long queue of really fucking fast 29-year-olds who've been a bit unmotivated for a while, waiting to tear everyone's legs off.
-
• #259
Think I'll wait another 36 years.

30-35 was dropped by the UCI. It's no longer in the World Master Track Champs or the EU Masters Champs.
It is still catered for at the BC Masters tho.
The 30-34 age group was never really well supported as many people at that age are still racing competitively at Elite level. If you take part in a UCI level event (World Cup, National Elite Madison Champs, Revolution, etc) you can't compete in the UCI World Masters in that season. Same if you score UCI points, you are considered an Elite and not eligible for Masters.
The 40-45 age group is one of the more competitive groups. The race there is world class and always good to watch.

Plenty of riders aged 23-30 seem to have enough excuses not to race the "real" nationals.
I hope I'm still around to see you and the other super chickens hit 35 and 40, struggling with an expanding waistline and hairs in places you didn't know you had.
-
• #264
I don't have an expanding waistline (@38), and was so hairy almost as soon as puberty was done that I'm well acquainted with all my secret places.
It's the lifetime of shittily paid and unreliable employment, taking weird shifts where you can get them, and family responsibilities that put pay to doing nationals, real or otherwise. And a lack of interest. And a lack of talent.
-
• #265
Lack of talent is a lie. ;)
-
• #266
Only ever had enough for one specialist event (possibly, at a push), and the planets were never in alignment :(
-
• #267
If everyone thought they needed talent to race, we'd have some pretty poor turn outs at ALL racing!
-
• #268
Everyone's got talent (hey, Britain's Got Talent!!! lolz omg wtf).
Whether you have the requisite amount to compete nationally is something else. For those who enjoy the spectacle / day out / taking part / 'racing themselves' / etc, less talent is required than for those who are aiming to win / get on the podium / beat rivals who are in the top few / and so on.
-
• #269
^actually, the same decision making process occurs at any level.
-
• #270
Fo' sure. Some decorum is necessary.
-
• #271
I have a talent for sublimenessitude. ;) Yes indeedy Bob.
-
• #272
I have no talent, and I race!......
I race at mid-table obscurity level. It can be pretty intense at times. -
• #273
I have no talent that I am aware of but I have raced at the BC masters .

Canyon V-drome - 593mm top tube.
Teasingly close to what I want... and I can have matching Canyons. Can I justify 800 Euros for a new frame? Can I fuck.

Alien bikes make a big frame especially for tall riders or those needing a long reach (short femurs long arms)

What is the age for masters? I thought it was 30.
