Worst Road in London

  • The worst winter damage that I've yet seen in London is on Roding Lane IG9, just east of Buckhurst Hill station. You can really see where large chunks of coarse aggregate tarmac have been ripped out, probably by vehicles accelerating up the hill (quite steep there).

  • borough high st is shite

  • anyone gone into a pothole so deep that the front end drops into it so quick that your hands (which i tend to rest on the bars rather than hold) stay mid air, sending you into a sprawling mess ??

Well, a friend of mine once fell into a six foot deep hole on London Bridge (southern end) where there were roadworks. His bike stayed up there and he couldn't look out of the hole (he's quite short). It's still one of the top ten things I wish I'd seen.

  • Roding Lane's always been shit. Either they never got around to resurfacing it in the last decade, or there's an underlying problem that causes it to disintegrate in such an alarming fashion.

  • It was certainly a lot better six years ago, when I started riding out that way. (It wasn't me wot wrecked it.) And I noticed this particular marked deterioration after last winter. What has definitely got far worse more gradually is the westbound downhill from Chigwell Rise. I just can't enjoy that downhill any more as I have to weave like a bee doing a waggledance.

  • Stoke Newington High st is terrible; full of poor people with sour expressions. It's such a relief to turn on to Church st and see the happy smiling Yuppies and their delightful children coming out of Fresh and Wild.

  • ^ so true

  • Actually, pretty much the worst street I know is Rendlesham Road, E5, between Kenninghall/Maury Road and Downs Road. That street is a complete and utter basket case and will continue to be until efforts to return the Stoke Newington one-way system to two-way are successful.

    haha. well spotted.

Burn Fresh and Wild? But where else would I buy my vegetarian Sage and Marjoram sausages? For not much more than the price of a small car?

  • it is a "bit" pricey, don't you reckon?

  • it is a "bit" pricey, don't you reckon?

Probably; I can't afford the entrance fee.

  • it is a "bit" pricey, don't you reckon?

Every country in the world has cuisine, only in England we don't have cuisine, only "food".

  • @WW neither can I
@ ed i don't get it. limited english knowledge

  • there must be english cooking somewhere. ask your mum

  • it's a joke my dear Tika!

other country have exotic delicious food, like Japanese, Indian, Nepalese, etc. whether the most exotic food we have in England is something simple and design to fuel us than our taste buds.

  • i don't believe that english have no tasty food. everyone says so but there must be something!
argentinian food is quite dull too, if you are a vegetarian, forget about it. oh well we can always drink a nice cheap malbec !
exotic is quite a relative word

  • Put it this way;

    sausage and mash
    shepherd pie
    fish and chip
    english breakfast
    toad-in-a-hole

what they all have in common, is that they're pretty simple and not exactly a light meal!

  • yes you don't want to go for a ride after that!
this thread is gone to hell

  • my poor girlfriend couldn't move an inch after I made her a beautiful heap of sausage and mash, not only enough to feed the whole of africa, but enough to feed the whole of the United State!

  • and she is so skinny! lucky her

  • Camden Road's got a few nasty spots, there's obviously the bus lane that cars are constantly turning left through, but there's also a few 1-2ft long potholes with deceptively smooth sides, no cracks or anything, just an unnanounced wheel-swallowing abyss.

The one near the Carpet store you mean?
Gawd, that bitch has caught me too many times.
and i still havent learnt my lesson.

Elementary, my dear Watson. Food for All in Cazenove Road is a much smaller shop that's been there for a lot longer, has a small stock and definitely not always what you want, doesn't sell meat, and I find it much preferable to F&W. Or Mother Earth Wholefoods in Albion Road. Nice shop, too, only a bit out of my way. Then there's (vegan) East of Eden in Lower Clapton Road.

Isn't she South American? Why didn't you make enough to feed her people, too?
