  • Was just reading one of turpe's posts on sffixed about how easy it is to forget we were all tarck bike newbs at one point and just knocked up any old crap to get rolling (e.g. it took me six months to build my 'first' bike but in the end I managed to finish another project first, what with all the newb errors made on 'first' bike)... So, in the spirit of 'Hey, I didn't really know what the fuck I was doing but this is what came out of the pot', here's my first finished tarck (Aug '07)... Frame now sleeps with asm... I still pine for her slutty street suss... Post yours, or don't... The choice really is yours...

edit: turpe speaks with sensible tongue... Less hate, more love...

    ...And here it is now!

  • ah, yes! mine was an old shitbag, I can't even remember the make of the frame but it was white and red and it had some fairly hefty structural-looking dents (before I even got hold of it). We built it in a day and I was so scared and confused by the whole concept, I wanted everything to be perfect. And shortly afterwards I moved to London with my brakeless monster and found other people riding such strange creatures too. It's rotting in some Glaswegian alleyway now: even the person with the biggest parts box I know refused to keep it for a rainy day.

No trace remains of this bike that I once loved so much.

  • This was the 1st fixed wheel bike that I put together myself:

Strange to think that I was riding with dual phil hubs! That bike was a death trap - look at the saddle to bar drop... No idea how I managed to survive riding that with only a broken knuckle and various grazes. The saddle is also in the wrong position and is angled down - 2 things that I find uncomfortable now. I fell off this bike more than I have fallen off anything else in my life, yet the frame and components escaped (nearly) completely unharmed. That was the final incarnation of my first fixed wheel, a bianchi pista, which gizmond now has... queue picture :)

  • I just realised looking at pic dates, that it took me 6 months from Aug 06 to finish my first fixed build in Melbourne.
Intended in the beginning to not fuss over it and then ending up doing just that. Miss her now but remember the good times together. This is 'Le Pomme'.

  • such a beautiful bike. Good for any opportunity to post pics of her, albeit nostalgically!

  • My first Fixed, lasted 3 weeks before it died. Frame now sitting dead in my spare room.

  • Can't find a pic of my first... so here's the second! Took me months to track (no pun intended) down every part.... flogged it after the maiden voyage to fund the next project.... made a loss :(

There's been many more since and they'll be plenty more to come :)

  • really shit picture but here it is still got the frame

Interesting handlebar going on there. Guess you didn't use the front brake much, with that lever set-up?

(Refraining from making any 'obligatory' comments about drive train ;)

It was surprisingly easy to use actually. It came off my old roadbike along with the 105 road cranks and DA/open pro front.

The STI lever had a great solid feel about it and I used to index through the imaginary gears to keep myself amused when I was delivering packages all day long.

It was a Sonic frame by Helmut.
