Brilliant Will. At the age of 12 my grandparents dragged me to see Buddy Rich. What a musician! It was an absolutely awe inspiring performance. As a result of that experience I became a very, very mediocre drummer from the ages of 12 to 18.

I was also a drummer. I was self taught. Sadly it turned out my teacher was an idiot.

Alan Turing, Bletchley park mastermind, worked on the bombe, persecuted to death for being gay, fucked over by the system he help to save.
Paul Dirac. As big a figure in mathematics / quantum electro dynamics as Einstein but just not as well know in the public eye. Many of the things we take for granted would not be possible without this man.
Sir James Lighthill. Revolutionary work helped allow Concord to fly. Died swimming round Sark at the age of 74.

BMMF - I'd rep you for the KD Lang but I'm not sure that the forum supports FIVE little green boxes.

Repped for that. I was much the same - I only became the drummer because the original candidate bought a bass because his parents wouldn't let him have a drum kit.
The guitarist, who has talent, used to have to show me what to play. If we were lucky I could master it.
What might have been though, eh? I get to read legal documents whilst the guitarist is enjoying liasons with Kate Moss. Doh.

OK, Greasy has given me a better idea. The beer now goes to whoever makes the worst guesses/best forumenger lookalike/stunningly intellectual ironic reference.
Hadn't noticed BMMF had anticipated the competition; he's top of the leader board at the moment.

This looks a bit like Tynan, especially around the ankles - Have I won?

Sorry, I was trying to fit in.
+1 for Humph. I know the BBC went a bit OTT when he died but it really touched me that people left flowers at Mornington Crescent. In a similar veign I'll throw in:
