I am fast loosing count of the number of bad service stories about Bob Jackson - personally i have never seen what all the fuss is about, nice enough frames but there are plenty of people out their who will make you something far more unique, and value your custom.
This is exactly the place to air these views, and + 1 to the OP because he actually sorted the matter out with BJ before coming on here, rather than slagging them off without giving them a chance to sort it first.

When BJ built me the wrong forks I paid for the courier. Annoying, and you wouldn't expect that from most shops. When the replacement forks arrived they had fucking big chip out of the paint on the fork crown. Not the end of the world but dissapointing.
It's tricky comparing the service you get with a shop to dealing with a factory. With BJ your actually really close to the builder of your frame in terms of people, so sometimes you get exposed to human error.

I like Bob Jackson frames, that's why I bought one. I was just making a point about the shit service I received. If I had the opportunity again, I'd buy from someone else - and wanted to pass on my experience so that it would maybe make others considering buying from them think twice. Or at the very least, if the same thing happened to someone else, they'd make sure they pushed hard to get the problem resolved.

not only all the fuss with the frame, then you had the hassle of the long haired, caffiene-riddled mechanic trying to build it! And they blamed him damaging the lugs in the first place!

That's the point of his story isn't it? That he had to insist that they do what they ought to do and that he only got it sorted out in the end because he wouldn't take no for an answer. Which seems to me like a useful lesson from which we can all learn whether it's about BJ or any other builder/shop/sex worker.
Also you'd think if you took your avatar from a notorious murderer you would make an effort not to come out second best from the comparison. -
