whats your problem with eastern European boys?
huh? say it -
• #381
I prefer eastern european women . They don't want to play football in our court .

So over the last 48 hours or so I have seen a ridiculous amount of people on fixed gear/singlespeed bikes, which got Matt and I chatting about whether it would be a good idea to make up a spoke card or something to essentially 'advertise' polo. Something along the lines of
'Hey nice bike, just to let you know that there's a bunch of people who play bicycle polo on fixed gears on Sundays at the barnwell centre on Newmarket Road, we're a nice friendly bunch so if you want to check it out/spectate/have a go come along from 11am.'
We could make some up to leave with Rick too perhaps?
Any thoughts?

"Hey nice bike, bring it down to a fenced court in the Hugo Boss stabber Estate and let us smash the shit out of it with bits of water pipe"

Thats why no one ever advertises the truth ;)
good idea Greg, I like it...
make sure you put like a small map on the back of the card to show where the court actually is -
• #386
Yes good idea Greg maybe something more enigmatic like a sticker with very little info to get people guessing and make them do some work if they want to find out what's going on . Plus do we want to wait around for hours between getting chosen in throw ins coz there's so many people wanting to play ? i suppose if that was the case there could be another court started up in Arbury or somewhere . Which would be cool north v south cambs matches etc :) I was also wondering about having a write up in the cambridge cycling campaign newsletter http://www.camcycle.org.uk/newsletters/too they must be desperate for copy........

Cool, think I'll make a few up and carry them round with me, the only problems I can see are
1) the bikes would have to be locked up (or at least stationary) for me to sneak a card in their spokes, and most people I see on bikes are in motion
2) the moral dilemma of whether or not to pop one in the spokes of a unipack

hahahhaha i love that

let me answer the second question for you there greg.
i bring your attention to the first post you made on the subject of polo awareness spoke cards'Hey nice bike, just to let you know that there's a bunch of people who play bicycle polo on fixed gears on Sundays at the barnwell centre on Newmarket Road, we're a nice friendly bunch so if you want to check it out/spectate/have a go come along from 11am.'
the first 3 words are all you need to take into account when pondering the invitation to a uni packerist, there bike is not nice.
i rest my case.
(im watching a court room drama as type this)

i like the tags :) harv?
-
• #391
I say YES for cards on unipacks. The way I see it is people have them because they are a) cheap and b) don't know that they are bad/can get better for not much money etc etc.
I'm sure if they came to polo/thursdays they would discover these things in a friendly, non judgemental enviroment* and then can get informed opinions* on upgrades/new bikes.
Also because polo is FUN FOR EVERYONE.*
*These facts may or may not be true.

I'm down with playing tomorrow if people are up for it? Maybe try the Newmarket Road one still, and if we can't play there then go to the weird Abbey Court one?

will need to get the flood lights booked if we play the newmarket road one but saying that its a lot lighter now
-
• #396
oh, and again, does anyone have a spare rear wheel (fixed) for polo for around 30ish cause i cant play polo from now on until i get a rear wheel.
The bearings blew up today (again) and the hub will not handle another game of polo. So need a wheel quite urgently.
Not too battered up though as itll need to serve me some polo miles to and from court too. -

That's weird i wrote those tags** BEFORE** last sunday including the 'bring a knife' request . That guy's brother the Hugo Boss stabber was just following instructions

I have a spare ski pole. I'm guessing Chewie needs one, right? I can bring it down tonight or sunday if so!
not particularly, they looked crap to be honest so i didn't bother putting them up.
