  • nope...didnae get a pm?

  • scott - whilst "your here"! Desperate for one of your new midsize backpacks but know you're snowed....having problems waiting much longer though.... have you ever seen these from RE Load in the flesh? any good?

    http://reloadbags.com/bags/midpack.php

Yeah, i've seen reload backpacks in the flesh.
Good bags...but for some reason i don't like them looks wise...but thats a personal thing....don't let that put you off. :)

nice one cheers - know what you mean about the looks though - bit school satchell-esque! prefer the more-rounded aesthetics of yours. Why do your bags have to be so damn fucking good, it makes buying anything else feel like such a half-hearted compromise ;-)

  • i'd recommend chicago wig backpacks if you can get hold of one.

  • had one - sold it to provenrad - too big, chest straps were off my shoulders almost - well made but no tarp liner. he's changed his design in the last few months mind you., not sure what they're like now

  • wouldn't that make steering very uneven and heavy? a nice idea, but a bit of a shite one IMO

no, racks on the front change the feel but not the function, putting aside that if you are doing the main part of your steering by turning the bars you'll have issues steering with or without a load on the bars. true tip: Lean further, turn bars less, if at all.

?? I don't follow, this "real" messenger bag has no impermeable liner? I suppose Chicago is a very dry environment I have never been there. If it doesn't rain there then it would make sense to use a bag that isn't waterproof to save money

  • i read that isaac prefers softer bags himself....but he does sell his bags with liners too.

  • thats good because the nylon cordoro stuff only keeps the inside dry for short bits of rain

  • Does anyone have a banjo bros bag and if so, do they have any comments on it?

It looks good for the money - £80 from urbanhunter

  • new Chrome messenger pack...

  • ...and still no way to get a decent sized box in it! sighhh

  • thats good because the nylon cordoro stuff only keeps the inside dry for short bits of rain

That's cos it's only the coating on the back that adds waterproofing to cordura...once that rubs off it's porous.
    Floating liners are the way!

  • I heard you had a bit of a roll back with monsieur multi-grooves my flat mate last night, pop by for a beer or tea or something next time if you want mate :)

sort of, the coating on the back side helps prevent water sluicing through the fabric in volumous amounts but does little to prevent wicking, corduro begins to let water through as soon as the water no longer beads on the face side. Why i dont bother with undercoated fabric for my camping tent, a rain fly with a dwr coating on the face works better. cordoro is much heavier than the nylon for tents but it works in the same way

As i said...cordura is porous without the coating on the back. you couldn't have the coating on the outer face of a messenger bag as it wouldn't last 5 mins.
How much water wicks through the cordura is dependant on the thickness and integrity of the coating.
A brand new piece of 1000d cordura with a good quality, intact coating on the back does prevent wicking....my point is that that coating breaks down pretty quickly through use on bags and so the cordura starts to let the water through.

I got one. They are pretty decent for the price, come with the laptop sleeve as well so that can act as padding. Plenty of space as well as two bottle pocket bits and tabs for your lights and what not. It's a little bit wide for me, but my back isn't very broad, I'm a skinny bastard, so I'm certain on a bloke with broader shoulders it would be a good fit.

  • Is there anyone who sells stabalizing straps for messenger bags, before I try and make one myself? Im using a Manhattan Portage large bag and they dont seem to sell them as accessories. I tighten the bag well tight (to the point of restricting my breathing) but its still slipping a bit.

  • Hey kev, might be time to butcher an old bag you have lying around for the strap. (or get a second hand one, bag that is)

  • As much as I like the Grobag, I am seriously considering getting panniers simply because

    a) at this point my budget is finite.
    b) I am doing some touring around the UK in the summer - which means a courier bag is inappropriate. While panniers are not ideal for central London, they are less inconvinient to London than courier bags are to touring.

ah, well, my point was that cordurs is porous With the the coating on the back, straight from day one, tha't s why it isnt marketed as a waterproof material

  • Got these puppies? Cyclelogical
