yep some reet cocks work there. Although I agree with him, why not have a brake if your frame fits one? when you get hit / hit something else its much easier to defend yourself. It's the difference between getting lots of compo and having to pay for the damages to some other twat who cut you up. Luckily I fitted a brake a few days before I went into the side of a car that cut me up, the lever was over the stem though, so I still looked cool! :-P.
What did you even go there for? Only reason Ive been is there to grab a few bits I'd ordered taht were on sale, and they cocked that up, and to just chill and smell the tyres and other bike shop smells. place is overpriced for most things and crap. Go Harry Hall.

I just came here, new to everything and EBS is the first bicycle shop I've noticed so far. Went there to fix my chain as I didn't have the chain tool, got a remark letter instead from them.
Harry Hall the one in Whitworth Street ya? I hope they're nice people. Thanks mate.

harry hall's in whitworth street, yep. or you could go bike boutique, it's probably closer to your area. its just off oxford road and they're real nice in there.

There really nice in HH too, unlike BB, HH isn't tiny and has many bikes to parooze.

meh i guess it depends who you get though. i nearly got ripped off massively in there once. but im not one to slander. the choice is better though, i'll give you that, but if you're after a repair/advice i'd go bb any day

same as BB, just more fixies.

Mabye you have better experience than me then, see I dont need repairs or advice :-P All I know is the place is tiny, shit looking, not much stock and won't even lend me a track pump for a few seconds.
-
• #486
hah.
gbh can be bell ends though, again it depends who you end up speaking to. bb have always been nice to me and they lent me tools as well. maybe you just didn't ask nicely :)
who cares if it's "shit looking", you're not going there to check out the scenery, are you? or maybe you are. in which case, you should get out more.

saying that, i've been to gbh quite a few times. had most of my first bike built there. used them recently to cut down a steerer as well as some other small jobs, which they did the same day and hardly charged me for. don't know how that helps you, but yeah. go and have a chat with them, see how you get on

You should probably be carefull when slagging off the local bike shops for nothign mroe than what you think they look like. LBS's rely on repuatation and slagging them off on the forum is a bit harsh, especially when Bike Boutique for example have been really good to most people on here...
-
• #489
meh i doubt anyone takes 4chantrollscottoxleyrincewind's opinion seriously >8D~

hey! whats Ive said is stuff that everyone can see and based on mainly factual evidence. hardly "slagging off". Im recommending the shops over Edimbrough FFS!
Its small and looks shit, can you deny that!? The actual shop area would hardly fit a bike in! They have a sign on the wall that says something along the lines of "due to health and safty problems we are no longer able to lend customers tools", what ive said is what everybody will see. Not once did I say anything that would constitute slagging off (apart from talking about edimbrough).
Oh wait a second!!! Your trolling me arnt you! :-P

free speach woodrow, scott's entitled to voice his opinion. it's what this forum's all about. -

you talk about free speech as if its a commodity, that doesn't even nee to be said.
my oppinions are, BB HH and GBH all nice guys, harrys is better for upper end stuff when you need it, new bars pedals, nice things.
GBH has harder to find things that can be really useful like odd sized parts and big free wheels etc, and boutique is best for mechanics, small parts like they will always sort you out with a strange size bolt or help if somethings seized, also good for tyres and grips and stuffi personally like Evans too, nice staff and a really big stock and they price match

Whatever Yoav, I just said that Scott should maybe think about airing his ill-thought out opinion, especially as it is on the public forum and thus could cause harm, the long-standing clause to freedom of speech, although I'm sure you're aware of that.
I don't really give a shit tbh

it's not 'ill thought out' at all really though, his opinion was based on his experiences and was given in response to a question asking for peoples' opinion. if people are not supposed to give their opinion if it would 'cause harm' then it kinda negates the need for asking in the first place. btw, i'd highly recommend BB as the staff are friendly and they've always done a good job when i've used them. but that's just my opinion... -

I like all the bike shops here. my thoughts, summarised
GBH sources unusual items and is **CHEAPEST **for labour. get there before 10(ish) & they'll repair anything the same day. 0161 831 9339
BB is my 1st choice. Open every day. IMO they are 2nd cheapest. 0161 273 7801
HH not any experience. they have sold me 2nd hand parts for little money. 0161 236 5699
Withington Cycles always a good service, call to book repairs. brooklyn machine works supplier!
0161 445 3492EBC is open every day. lots of bikes for sale. when on sale it isnt uncommon for bikes to have 20/30% off which is wicked. they offer **courses **in wheelbuilding and full bike service. labour is pricey though.

Any opinions on Ken Fosters, or Cycle Surgery?
-
• #497
Fosters are extremely expensive for repairs, to the point that a few of the guys who ride in the club Foster's sponsor, have started to take their bikes elsewhere/ learning to do their own maintenance.
