  • moved in a week or so ago, am here for a year so say hello if you see any of these bikes, my name is andreas

    breakbrake17 serpent prototype

    dolan track champion

my beater project (fillet brazed 14bikeco ESB) .. needs bmx cranks, rear coaster wheel, front rack and some mudguards for commuting to the science park

  • Hello, the above pic is my bike, bought recently from a mate. He did all the work, now i get to ride it around. The Charge seat is nice, and the Campagnolo components are in good condition. The stem is by Amoeba. I'm going to get new pedals and at some stage get a respray done, "Cambridge Blue" would be nice.

  • Also the brakes are not the best, maybe fixed gear plus a front brake would be better?

  • dat rossin

is going to be turned into a single and my current single into something more fitting of it's age - old 10speed with d/t shifters....hence me selling the campag ergo's, mech etc

  • My bike with a bigger gear, new chain, and pedals. Gradually making it how i want it to look. I think ill keep the frame black, i'll just touch up the scratches and dodgy bits.

if those brakes are Weinmann you'd be better off getting something else - in fact anything, they could be made from cheese for all the bralking power they possess

  • What type of cheese are we talking about here?

    whatever you fancy!

  • A nice rubbery Wensleydale might not be totally useless?

  • new pub bike. yes coaster brake.

  • I was thinking a nice Rimula cheese might be best.

  • Or Cambridge Blue Vein?

  • Seriously though, if i switch to fixed gear and want a front brake what would you chaps and chapesses recommend??

  • My 12 year old MTB being prepped for single speed conversion. Going to replace the front suspension with a proper fork, any suggestions? Also going to get some nice road tires and nice grips/tape. I might just leave the cogs on for now and get a chain tensioner just to see how it rides. A new seat is a must!

  • Okay, i swapped the bars on the Scott with the chrome ones off my single speed, which seems to work well. Ditched the old pedals, going to look for a new front chainring as the old 44T one has chipped teeth, then hopefully find a decent rear cog and spacers.

Meanwhile, the single speed commuting bike is going to get new, non-cheesey, brakes tomorrow.

Doh, got some nice 1990's vintage Shimano SLR brakes for the commuter, and they don't fit right, even with repeated adjustment and swapping of parts. The front one needs a longer bolt to go through the fork, and the rear one rubs the brake pad on the tire, even with the pads at their lowest setting. I'll hang on to 'em though as i might find a way to use them on the commuter or my next project.

  • ^^ However, the Gusset grips and neat brake levers are perfect.

Those levers are great. I have them on a build.

  • I love 'em, but i need a piece of rubber or something under them to keep them secure on my bar. Otherwise they slip, even when tightened.

if your frame was designed for 272 wheels and you are now running 700c then you'll need deeper drop brakes.....alghonga (or however it's spelt) are ok as i run a set on my ss

Yep, i have 700c on an old Reynolds 501 frame. I guessed that might be the issue. Thanks for the tip, i'll have a look round the shops again and have a list of measurements so i get some that fit better.

    Are these any good?

  • Are these any good?

you got a web link? there should be some details on the website for the amount of drop they have....you could roughly measure - think it's from the centre of the mounting bolt to the braking surface - could be wrong though
