Winter gloves

  • Man alive I'm so glad I bought those Spesh sub zeros gloves.. Fucking bargain..

  • Recommendations for the best waterproof gloves? Something with goretex I imagine

  • Must also have good palm grip for the hoods! Almost fell off every time I got out of he saddle yesterday- stupid Rapha leather palms.

  • Craft Siberians - still too warm.
Any recommendations for not very warm winter gloves?

    :-)

  • [notaclassified]Anyone want a pair of these? http://www.evanscycles.com/products/louis-garneau/shield-gloves-ec040436

Bought them when caught out by first cold snap back in December but surplus to requirements really. Very warm but very bulky. Medium. Only worn and handful (arf) of times. PM me if you want them for a tenner or something. [/notaclassified]

  • Craft Siberians got very wet and they felt it too, but stayed warm despite that, was grateful for them on Sunday

  • -dan- gore countdowns.

Will take a few hours in proper, driving, rain to get wet, but you'll stay dry. Drizzle rain will not get through.

  • +1 to Gore Countdown, using them in winter for last 3 years, no problem whatsoever. Lining tends to 'stick' to the hands if hands get too sweaty but a good dry solves that. Would buy again.

  • Does the lining pull out when you pull your hands out, or move enough that it's difficult to get hands back in? That's a deal-breaker for me..

Rapha winter gloves SUCK for this. Sure I'm going bust through the lining trying to force my clammy back into twisted sweaty lining soon. Other than that they're great.

  • Or Gore Xenon SOs. The liners definitely don't pull out of them, as there aren't any. I wore mine to cycle down to London on Saturday morning, and according to the Edge the temperature varied from -2degC to +2degC over the 5 hour ride. Toes got a bit chilly, but my hands were fine.

The only time I've found Xenon SOs not up to the job was a 25 minute descent in Switzerland where the temperature never got above -6degC and the average speed was over 30mph.

  • ^ yeah I think I can probably live with that - my opportunities for alpine descents in the winter are fairly limited :)
    They sound perfect

  • I'm in warm hand heaven.

-6C this morning. Spent 30mins messing around outside sans gloves (car would'nt start). Climbed on bike with cold gloveless hands. 3 minutes in the pogies and they started to warm up 10 mins, and all was cosy. :)

Looking forward to trying these out in Flanders. I'm another bad circulator, so I'll let you all know how it goes!

Went well and really like the gloves. Take a bit of getting used to, but changing gear with big gloves is easier than numb fingers.

Haven't tried them in a downpour yet, but infinitely warmer than my usuals. Swapped the inner gloves that come with for some merino liners.

  • These Sealskinz ultragrip gloves have been doing really well for me in recent weeks:

  • Cycled to work in MTB gloves the other week. Wasnt untill I got down the road that I realised the temp had dropped 8 degrees from the day before. -4C as opposed the the +4C the day before.

    The pain was pretty bad.

Must stop these feck ups. My hands are being ruined. :(

  • These Campag Steam gloves haven't let me down: never felt the cold and not got wet, although I haven't been caught in a prolonged downpour, I have been in heavy snow for a fair while.

No problems getting on or of either as the insides don't pull out; plenty of wrist protection too.

I bought XXXL as my long fingers normally get scrunched in the end of gloves and these are fine.

The only fly in the ointment (for you) is that they've gone up a fiver since I bough them at the beginning of February, bloody profiteering I say, although still worth it.

  • Got some Giro 100 Proof gloves from my LBS at a bargain price. Seem to be pretty good so far, took a bit of getting used to only having 2 fingers, but hands have been pretty toasty since. The removable liners that come with them have been pretty handy under polo gloves too.

What's the grip like when it's wet? Been searchings fruitlessly for a thin but semi warm/waterproof glove that gives good shifting grip when wet. For racing.

  • Not ridden with them on in the rain yet, will update then.

They have rubbery dots all over the palm and fingers, which I would hope would be good in the wet.

    But I don't know.

  • Apologies for getting this running again so soon. My digits were that familiar dead mans, white cold way on Saturday morning for the first time in a while, winters coming.

Despite spending a small fortune each year on gloves that don't work for me. Im optimistic about the future, otherwise cycling in winter will become unbearable.

Those gauntlets up there look great. Im hoping that some kind of heated glove is ready and affordable. Any other cold fingered folk wish to share?

  • already got some seal skinz deep winters on the cheap from last years stock.
    overshoes next.

    fucking winter.

  • Already purchased for this winter: softshell gloves (probably won't be enough for true winter), overshoes, heated insoles and LOADS of merino socks. Bring it (fighting' talk disguising my dread of months of not feeling my fingers).

  • Which heated insoles did you go for - the Maplin ones?
