I've ordered some of these wool dura gloves everyone seems to be banging on about. If they aren't made of magic, you guys owe me.
The DeFeet ones? I've got a pair which got worn a few times and now sit on the shelf. They just weren't warm enough for anything under about 8 degrees, let the wind through and have naff all grip.

Magic, they got magic.

I'm not impressed with the non merino versions of the defeet. Haven't got the merino ones to compare with. Perhaps I'm just a bit soft.

The merino ones are significantly warmer than the non-merino ones in my experience. You can wear the former when it's 5 or 6 degrees colder and still have warm hands.

non-merino version is fine for 10 degrees and above, merino version is too warm above that.

Perhaps I should restart my search for a pair. I gave up after realising I'd bought the wrong version and couldnt be bothered to return them.

I like the look of these as a liner - http://arcteryx.com/product.aspx?language=EN&category=Accessories&subcat=Gloves&model=Gothic-Glove

What the fuck? I have two pairs of these coming.
So talk of happy hands at 1° isn't accurate? I thought it sounded too good to be true.

The regular defeets are for spring/autumn cold starts, slipping them over mitts etc. Not really 'deep winter' for most people.
Dammit wears them on summer holiday.

Maybe that explains it, pretty sure mine aren't merino.

ffs

I use the non-merino ones. Good for me down to about 3-4 degrees. Best all round glove out there IMO... bonkers cheap too. Gloves normally last me 2 months, this pair have gone for over a year.
Gloves are a pretty subjective... subject.

It also depends on the type of riding you're doing. I wore lobsters over mine this morning, but I was at full on pootle-pace on my commute.
1 degree is optimistic though.. even if you run hot like a kettle.

I'll use them with liners when needed.
I have a few options down to about 2° where it starts getting tricky on long, easy paced rides (or when there's rain involved).
I guess that's the point where it's time to sack it off and go for a run anyway for fear of ice.

That would make sense, the merino version is slightly dark grey rather than black.

The pink ones ain't merino.
Had my Aldi Zoidburg gloves on today, they are too warm even by themselves, although as I've been outside since 0830 and soaking wet for the last few hours, having too warm hands was actually quite nice. Probably the wrong thread but 3m insulated insoles have helped keep my feet almost warm enough all day too. -

this seems to suggest there are wool pink ones

It does indeed.

They're not merino.

Are you sure, Ed? They look it.

You might be right, hard to tell.
Their website only suggest that the dark grey one is the only wools, whether the rest is normal.
Edit - found a photo of the actual product;

These are serving well. Second winter and not a thread out of place.
Though I have the non lobster version. I run so cold I can draw on my hand and they're serving well on early morning 0 degree starts. Take around 15 mins to accumulate heat, then just nice and cosy without turning your hands into prunes.

Where did you get non lobster version? The early winter glove looks superb but we're getting into colder weather that's a bit too love for the suggested temperature range.
Wearing sealskinz merino glove liners so far this year. What have the defeet wool got that these liners have nor?
