  • Remember Cloud 9 Cycles in Camden too!

  • strattons in wandsworth kicks arse

  • Remember Cloud 9 Cycles in Camden too!

    Now added to the list.

  • fitrovia bicycles.
i've used them several times since they changed from cavendish cycles.
    good repairs and maintainance work.
you pay what they quote at the outset, not yet had a cost surprise when collecting bikes or bits.
good service, friendly guys who make time to talk you through options etc.

they get my thumbs up, i'll keep going back.

  • Bicycle magic has shut down :/

  • This thread needs a mention for Micycle. If only for the fact that you can also use their workshop and tools for free, and that while doing so and being a member, you get a discount on everything in the shop.

  • Also I went to Simpsons Cycles on Malden Road on Saturday, I found them to be pleasant and helpful, and while the price of what I needed (braze-on cable stops to replace DT shifters) was ridiculous, it was no more ridiculous than it is online.

I would suggest that unless anyone objects strongly, the 'very negative customer feedback' be downgraded slightly, in view of mine and the other positive experiences recorded here.

Already mentioned and added to the map by me. Lovely little shop and very helpful staff. Only downside is very limited stock.

  • I'd also like to give a shout to Micycle, they were so friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and inquisitive when I merely popped in for some air.
Another thing to mention is that Two Wheels Good Crouch End is still going strong, though trying to fight against the Evans round the corner. It is very expensive but they do give thorough service and some of the mechanics there are really super friendly. I went in with hubs and rims and begged to be shown how to build wheels and Alec lent me books, gave me double butted spokes for cheap spoke price and was generally really lovely about it. They are mostly a road bike and commuter shop but it's my local and I'm glad of it. The owner who spends his time between that branch and the Stoke Newington one is very helpful though he often seems brusque.
A shop for the 'not in London' section ought to be The Cycle Repair Shop in Cambridge, good service and great service if you go in friendly. Unreliable opening hours but good prices. Very flexible, while he obviously won't just lend all his tools out to strangers if you go in and plead 'my tools are back in London, could you have a look?' he'll often just fix little kinks for free.
Bike Ambulance (Cambridge again) are well known I believe already. They're definitely good for bike bling.

  • hi, this is my first post here but wanted to say i work at a shop called Neil's Wheels over in East Molesey (near kingston)

Just leting people know about the shop if you havent already heard about or or been in!

We specialise in spares and repairs, second hand reconditioned bikes, new accesories and parts and are a Surly stockist! we deal with many main suppliers too so any queries about frames, parts etc give me a shout! or call us on 0208 979 0707

we also stock BMX frames and bits and bobs!

  • I'm doing a piece of research that requires a list of all the bike shops in the surrounding neighbourhoods of the Olympic Park.

I have got the two Bike Shack shops up in Leyton, and Pia's (WingedAngel) place in Hackney Wick.
I have also got a list of all the Halfrauds and whatnot.

Seems to be a bit of a desert for bike shops.

Can anyone add any that I might have missed?
    Leyton/Stratford/HackneyWIck/FishIsland
    possibly Victoria Park and Bow

  • There's a bike shop map thread on this forum, have you seen it?

    http://www.lfgss.com/shops.html

  • I've run a search on the thread and couldn't find the answer to this, but...

is there a shop in london that specialises in touring bikes / light tourers?

  • Thanks mate

  • www.devercycles.co.uk/ - might be able to help

  • ^^ Seconded.

  • thanks :-)

  • Would defo recommend Condor Cycles. You could try Bike Plus out in Croydon too.

  • A big plus to micycle in islington. really friendly and helped me with my stuck seat post. even let me leave it soaking in caustic soda overnight.

I wasn't aware of this but they have an open workshop. so if you don't have the right tool/space for the job you can go down to their workshop and use their tools.

  • which shop in London is best for sourcing a 1inch threaded fork?

the lady friend needs a replacement and wants to be able to walk in somewhere and get that extra 'bike shop' reassurance

  • I'd say Edwardes of Camberwell straight off the bat. But if your lady isn't in Sarf, then maybe another choice from the list?

  • I find nothing reassuring about Edwardes; bunch of cowboys. Would use them for parts, when confident I knew exactly what I needed, but would ask their opinion about nothing at all, nor ever rely on their skills (having been bitten more than once).

  • Seems like a good compromise.. never been in there myself, despite being local but know what you mean about the cowboy impression. She has someone to fit it, just needs the fork itself, so if they have a selection of forks around that'd be perfick.
